    • A computer-implemented method of operating a computing device may comprise enabling the player to play a wager-based and skill-influenced game in which in-game assets are presented for player interaction, each being configured as a wagering opportunity, a successful player interaction with which generates a wager. The game may be configured to operate in a first wager-based state in which a skill of the player affects whether and/or a degree to which player interactions with the wagering opportunities are determined to be successful. Game play of the game configured in the first wager-based state may be enabled, player interactions with the wagering opportunities received and the player may be randomly rewarded for player interactions determined to be successful. The game may be configured to operate in a second wager-based state in which effects of the player's skill are changed relative to the first wager-based state and game play enabled in such second wager-based state. Upon occurrence of a predetermined action or event, the game may be reconfigured back to the first wager-based state and game play may be re-enabled to operate in the first wager-based state.

    • A computer-implemented method of operating a computing device may comprise accepting, by the computing device, funds from a player and enabling the player to play a wager-based game using the accepted funds. The wager-based game may be configured to present a plurality of in-game assets for player interaction during the game, at least some of the plurality of in-game assets being configured as wagering opportunities, such that player interactions therewith generates wagers. Player interactions with the wagering opportunities may be received and wagers generated upon receiving player interactions with the wagering opportunities. During game play of the wager-based game, a conditional prize may be presented to the player, an award of which being predicated upon receiving future player interactions indicative of the player having caused a predetermined in-game action or in-game result to have occurred. Game play of the wager-based game may be continued and a determination may be made as to when the predetermined in-game action or predetermined in-game result occurs. The conditional prize may be awarded to the player when the predetermined in-game action or predetermined in-game result has been determined to have occurred and the wager-based game may forego awarding the conditional prize to the player when the accepted funds run out, when a player interaction is received that is indicative of a cash out event before the counted number of generated additional wagers equals the predetermined number of additional wagers or when a player interaction is received that is indicative of the player choosing to forego the award of the conditional prize.

An incentive may be offered to the player to transition game play to the next or another stage when game play has reached the stage complete state for the first time and not offering the player the incentive otherwise. The offered incentive may be rewarded when a player interaction is received in the regulated gaming machine that causes game play to transition to a next or another stage of the plurality of stages. Continued game play may be enabled in the current stage of the game when a player interaction received in the regulated gaming machine causes game play to remain in the current stage of the plurality of stages. When a determination is made that game play has previously reached the stage complete in the current stage in the game session, the offering and rewarding the incentive to transition the game to the next or another stage is disallowed.
