    • A system is described that consists of components that are magnetically and electronically coupled together. The electronic coupling allows signals and power/ground to couple between the various components. The magnetic coupling allows the portable system to come apart without damaging the components when an element of a component gets unexpectedly snagged after passing an obstacle. The components can be easily collected and reassembled to reconstruct the system. Furthermore, the positioning of the magnets in the magnetic coupling provides a lock and key combination in that the pattern and anti-pattern between mating surface couplings can be designed to only allow one orientation when the units are coupled. This restriction in orientation prevents the power leads from shorting to ground or other signal leads during the reassembly thereby preventing damage to the system.

    • Falling causes serious injury to the body and is a leading cause of death in the elderly. An external belt placed over the waist comprises an inertia system and expandable modules. These modules contain packed air bags and can be expanded in size by orders of magnitude using an air tank. The modules are selected by the inertia system that senses the direction of the fall. The selected module is filled with air from the air tank generating a protective mattress which can be used to cushion their fall. Serious injury to the body can be reduced or even prevented. The module instead can contain an expandable support structure to reach the floor and act as a “third leg”. This support structure may be used by the individual to gain control of the individual's balance and stabilize the individual allowing a re-capture of balance and preventing the fall from occurring.

    • A first insulated planar metallic surface is formed under a surface of a substrate which is orientated a first way to an edge of the substrate. A Faraday shield is formed when a second insulated planar metallic surface is juxtaposed to and segregates the first insulated planar metallic surface from the remained of the substrate. A Coulomb force is generated between two charged Coulomb islands each located on a different substrate. The Faraday shield can be used to increase the Coulomb force while the potential applied to the shield can alter the Coulomb force.

    • A stealth mode technique records information onto the sound track of a camcorder without the knowledge of the user. Infrasound is continuously generated by an array of audio sources placed in a geographical position that potentially encompasses the location of the recording device. A database stores the known characteristics of all audio sources. Once the recorded media is released to the public, a post analysis using a processing unit can decompose the recording back into a set of reconstructed audio sounds. An analysis can be performed to determine which audio sounds match the reconstructed audio sounds so that an estimate of the set of parameters associated with the sound track can be obtained. The set of parameters includes the geographical location and local time of the recording. The geographic location provides the opportunity to capture the terrorists and free the hostages.

    • A signal processing circuit and method in which a given signal, e.g., a receive data clock associated with a first chip and generated by a deserializer circuit, is synchronized with another signal, e.g., a clock signal from a second chip which is asynchronous with the receive data clock. The logic and selection circuits may be configured as part of a feedback control loop which automatically maintains the desired relationship.

    • Placing inductors or resistors in parallel causes the combined value of inductance or resistance to decrease according to the parallel combination rule. This invention decreases the parasitic resistance of an inductor by placing several inductors in parallel. Furthermore, by careful placement of these inductors, the mutual inductance between these inductors can be used to increase the equivalent inductance value to a value near that of the original inductance value of a single inductor. Thus, it is possible to create an inductance with a much lower value of parasitic resistance. This invention allows the formation of high Q inductors and would be beneficial in any circuit design requiring inductances. Another aspect of this invention is that the coils can be partitioned to minimize eddy current losses. This invention can easily be implemented in a planar technology. Simulations of several tank circuits indicate that the power dissipation can be reduced 3 to 4 times when compared to conventional techniques.
