    • A process for the production of rigid polyurethane foams having low thermal conductivity is described. This process comprises reacting A) a polyol component comprising: (1) at least one polyester polyol having a molecular weight of from 100 to 30,000 g/mol and containing at least two isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms; (2) at least one polyether polyol having a molecular weight of from 150 to 12,500 g/mol and containing at least two isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms and at least one tertiary nitrogen atom, and being prepared from a starter compound comprising ammonia or a compound containing at least one primary, secondary or tertiary amino group; (3) at least one polyether polyol having a molecular weight of from 150 to 12,500 g/mol and containing at least two isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms, and being prepared from a starter compound comprising water or a polyhydric alcohol; (4) at least one catalyst; (5) water (6) at least one blowing agent; and, optionally (7) auxiliary substances and/or additives; with B) an organic polyisocyanate having an NCO group content of from 20 to 48% by weight. Cyclopentane blown rigid polyurethane foams which exhibit low thermal conductivity and the end-use of such foams as an interlayer in a process for the production of composite components and for filling cavities is also disclosed.

    • Closed cell rigid polyurethane foams are produced by reacting a) a polyol component with b) a polyisocyanate having an NCO content of from about 20 to about 48% by weight. The polyol component a) includes: 1) from 40 to 80% by weight, based on the total weight of polyol component a), of a sucrose or sorbitol initiated polyether having a molecular weight of from about 300 to about 800; 2) from 3 to 40% by weight, based on the total weight of polyol component a), of an aromatic amine initiated polyether having a molecular weight of from about 300 to about 800; 3) from 3 to 40% by weight, based on the total weight of polyol component a), of an aliphatic amine initiated polyether having a molecular weight of from about 200 to about 800; 4) from 3 to 40% by weight, based on the total weight of polyol component a), of a linear polyether having a molecular weight of from about 500 to about 1500; optionally, 5) other compounds containing at least isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms having a molecular weight of from about 150 to about 12,500; 6) a catalyst; 7) water; 8) a foaming agent; and optionally, 9) a processing aid and/or additive.

    • This invention provides a process for producing rigid polyurethane foams by reacting A) a polyol component with B) a polyisocyanate component in the presence of C) water, D) at least one catalyst, and, optionally, E) at least one blowing agent. This process specifically requires A) a polyol component which comprises: 1) a polyol containing at least two isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms and comprising: a) a mixture of i) an addition product having a OH number of at least 500 of diamines or polyamines containing primary and/or secondary amino groups with alkylene oxides, and ii) castor oil, and/or b) one or more reaction products obtained by reacting i) an addition product having a OH number of at least 500 of diamines or polyamines containing primary and/or secondary amino groups with alkylene oxides, and ii) castor oil; and 2) at least one compound containing at least two isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms. Suitable polyisocyanates B) for the present invention are those containing an NCO group content of from 20 to 48% by weight.
