摘要： A system for determination of intraocular pressure includes: an intraocular pressure sensor; a light source illuminating the sensor with one or more wavelengths of light; and a detector that measures emitted light from the sensor. The sensor includes a substrate member, a spacer member, and a flexible membrane, which define a sealed cavity. The flexible membrane moves in response to intraocular pressure changes. A device for measuring intraocular pressure includes: the sensor; an anchoring member attached to the sensor for immobilizing the sensor in an eye; and a protective member attached to the anchoring member and covering the sensor to prevent contact between the flexible membrane and the eye. A method for determination of intraocular pressure includes: placing the sensor in an eye; illuminating, with a light source, the sensor with one or more wavelengths of light; and detecting, with a detector, a resultant light that contains information about intraocular pressure.

摘要： A method of recovering a product-of-interest from a plant or algal cell and a kit relating to the same are provided. The method of recovering a product-of-interest from a plant or algal cell includes (a) culturing a plant or algal cell that produces a product-of-interest in a culture medium; (b) adding functionalized nanoparticles to the culture medium, whereby the nanoparticles enter the plant or algal cell, bind the product-of-interest, and are extruded into the culture medium; (c) recovering the extruded nanoparticles from the culture medium; and (d) separating the product-of-interest from the extruded nanoparticles. The kit includes a plant or algal cell that produces a product-of-interest when in culture and a functionalized nanoparticle. Also provided is a method of separating plant or algal cells.

摘要： Compositions and methods for reducing the level of nornicotine and N′-nitrosonornicotine (NNN) in Nicotiana plants and plant parts thereof are provided. The compositions comprise isolated polynucleotides and polypeptides for cytochrome P450s that are involved in the metabolic conversion of nicotine to nornicotine in these plants. Expression cassettes, vectors, plants, and plant parts thereof comprising inhibitory sequences that target expression or function of the disclosed cytochrome P450 polypeptides are also provided. Methods for the use of these novel sequences to inhibit expression or function of cytochrome P450 polypeptides involved in this metabolic conversion are also provided. The methods find use in the production of tobacco products that have reduced levels of nornicotine and its carcinogenic metabolite, NNN, and thus reduced carcinogenic potential for individuals consuming these tobacco products or exposed to secondary smoke derived from these products.
