To solve the above problems, the present invention records data in a management area in units smaller than ordinary units for recorded data to suitably record information in a limited management area and thereby efficiently use the user data area. At that time, the present invention simplifies interleave processing usually applied to ordinary recorded data, and performs the simplified interleave processing on a data structure (for data of small size) of the present invention so as to ensure the signal processing compatibility between the ordinary data and data having the data structure according to the present invention.

摘要： The display driver includes: a display data compression circuit; a recording circuit; a display data decompression circuit; and an output circuit. Further, the display driver is provided with a compressibility setting circuit. The display data compression circuit has the function of compressing the display data according to a compressibility set by the compressibility setting circuit. With the display driver arranged like this, the power consumption can be reduced by increasing the compressibility for a displayed image such that the image quality is not noticeably deteriorated even with the compressibility increased. Further, for the displayed image such that the image quality is noticeably deteriorated with the compressibility increased, a sufficient image quality after data decompression can be secured by lowering the compressibility.

In the error correction processing, after syndrome calculation is performed, syndrome s0 is used to determine the location and value of an error; the error value is subtracted from each syndrome value; and the result is divided by a fixed value. This process realizes a digital data encoding and decoding system providing substantially the same correcting ability as a conventional process except that error propagation occurs through descrambling.
