    • A management server has printer monitoring information that associates the time at which a network board begins printer monitoring and the printer being monitored. The management server receives from the network board the printer's serial number, the network board's MAC address and the time at which the network board was replaced, and registers these items of information in the printer monitoring information. The network board monitors the printer and collects log information. For each log file uploaded from the network board, the management server specifies and associates which printer the log file belongs to based on the time at which the log file was collected and printer monitoring information and stores the log file in the log database while maintaining such association.

    • The serial number of a first printer in which a network board is installed before power supply of the first printer is turned is stored in the network board. The network board determines whether or not the current serial number of the first printer in which the network board is currently installed and the serial number of a second printer in which the network board is installed before the power supply of the first printer is turned ON are identical. If the two serial numbers are determined to be not identical, the network board transmits the model name of the first printer to a management server. When the management server receives the model name of the first printer, the management server transmits the configuration file associates with the model name of the first printer to the network board.

    • In a distributed printing system of the invention, in response to reception of a print job, a distributed printing control device specifies distribution destination printing devices for the received print job, stores identification information of the specified distribution destination printing devices, and distributes divisions of the received print job as divisional print jobs to the specified distribution destination printing devices. In response to an instruction given by a client, the distributed printing control device sends a transmission request for print job-related information on processing of the distributed divisional print jobs to the distribution destination printing devices and receives the print job-related information from the distribution destination printing devices. The distributed printing control device correlates the received print job-related information to the stored identification information of the distribution destination printing devices and sends the print job-related information correlated to the identification information to the client. The client receives the print job-related information correlated to the identification information from the distributed printing control device and displays information identifying each of the plural distribution destination printing devices and information representing a progress status of each of the divisional print jobs distributed to the plural distribution destination printing devices, based on the received print job-related information and the correlated identification information. This arrangement of the invention enables the client to readily identify the distribution destination printing devices specified by the distributed printing control device and to display the progress status of each of the divisional print jobs distributed to the respective identified distribution destination printing devices.

    • In a message display control apparatus of the invention, when an administrator of a server computer presses a ‘Details’ button on a setting window displayed on the screen of a display unit, a message display setting module of a CPU in the server computer opens a detailed setting window on the screen of the display unit. Such selective ticking specifies permission for display of messages corresponding to the ticked checkboxes among preset four messages on the monitor screen of a client computer. This arrangement enables display of only the desired messages on the monitor screen of the client computer and accordingly relieves the user of the client computer from feeling annoyed with frequent display of unnecessary messages.

    • A client computer of the invention utilizes a printer driver for a distribution source printer to send a print job to the distribution source printer. The distribution source printer distributes each print job sent with setting of a preset second port number to multiple distribution destination printers. The client computer includes: a storage unit that stores a first printer driver with property information including specification of a port number, which is specified and used for transmission of each print job and is currently set to a preset first port number, as one printer driver for the distribution source printer; and a printer driver generation module that, in response to an externally given instruction, duplicates the property information of the first printer driver read from the storage unit and changes the port number included in the duplicated property information of the first printer driver to the preset second port number, which is different from the preset first port number, so as to generate a second printer driver as another printer driver for the distribution source printer. This arrangement enables the first printer driver and the second printer driver having the different settings of the port number included in the property information to be readily provided in the client computer as multiple different printer drivers for the distribution source printer.
