    • Provided are methods, devices, and systems for maintaining a SIP survivable network. A SIP endpoint maintains an ordered list of the controllers that are available to it and registers with a subset containing the first N controllers in the list, where N is a plurality, but not all, of the controllers in the list, and obtains services from one or more of the controllers of the subset. If one of the controllers of the subset becomes unavailable, the endpoint registers with the (N+1)st controller in the list, thereby adding it to the subset. If and when the one controller becomes available again, the endpoint de-registers with the (N+1)st controller, thereby removing it from the subset, and if necessary re-registers with one controller. The subset thus forms a sliding window on the list.

    • A method and apparatus for dynamically and automatically configuring an endpoint device to a computer network of a network system. When the endpoint device, such as a computer or router, initially connects to a computer network, it is dynamically assigned or allocated a first unique network (IP) address, as by a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server. The allocation of the first network address is monitored and, in response to the monitored allocation, a connection between a configuration manager and the endpoint device is established. The class of the endpoint device is then remotely identified and appropriate configuration information stored in a configuration database is retrieved and utilized to automatically configure the endpoint device within the network system.

    • A method and apparatus are provided for analyzing a user's communication activity to determine presence patterns at one or more communication devices. A user's presence at one or more communication devices is monitored over time to detect at least one pattern of behavior indicating that a user is likely to be present at a given communication device during a particular time interval. Once a presence pattern is detected, a call that is destined for the user during the associated time interval can be automatically routed to the user at the given communication device. As a transition between each presence pattern is reached, i.e., when the user changes locations or devices, the probability of the user being present on one device decreases while the probability of the user being present on another device increases. According to another aspect of the present invention, the presence call processor can optionally send messages to multiple devices during these transitional times to ensure that the call is received by the intended recipient.
