摘要： The embodiments described herein can dynamically adjust timing of network bandwidth estimations by adjusting a target frequency for sending probing sequences to one or more receivers of content. The receivers receive these probing sequences from a transmitter and respond to the transmitter with network bandwidth estimations. In one embodiment, the probing sequences can use the content itself to create the probing sequences. The embodiments can be used in video conferencing applications to control how a transmitter of content can adjust transmissions based upon the network bandwidth estimations. In one embodiment, a policy can be used at a transmitter to begin a video transmission with a high frequency target for sending probing sequences (with, e.g., smaller length probing sequences) and transition to a lower frequency target (with, e.g., longer length probing sequences) when network bandwidth deteriorates and then return to the higher frequency target when the network bandwidth improves.

摘要： A system and method for conducting a video call between an originating device and a terminating device by establishing a peer-to-peer (P2P) connection between the devices. The originating and terminating devices exchange candidate information through a P2P server, except that the candidate information for the terminating device is altered before arriving at the originating device. The altering includes changing the IP address and corresponding port for each candidate. The originating device uses the altered candidate information to derive new candidate pairs that are sent to the terminating device, which uses the new candidate pairs to also derive a second candidate list. If the candidate pairs match, a P2P connection is established between the devices.

摘要： Some embodiments provide an architecture for establishing multi-participant video conferences. This architecture has a central distributor that receives video images from two or more participants. From the received images, the central distributor generates composite images that the central distributor transmits back to the participants. Each composite image includes a set of sub images, where each sub image belongs to one participant. In some embodiments, the central distributor saves network bandwidth by removing each particular participant's image from the composite image that the central distributor sends to the particular participant. In some embodiments, images received from each participant are arranged in the composite in a non-interleaved manner. For instance, in some embodiments, the composite image includes at most one sub-image for each participant, and no two sub-images are interleaved.

For example, multiple client applications running on the device can communicate to a second device through a same primary socket connection. A mux module can receive data from two different client applications over respective client connections. The received data can include header information identifying the second device as the destination. When the first data from a first client application is received at the mux module, the primary socket connection can be created; and when the second data from a second client application is received, the existing primary socket connection can be identified and re-used. The primary socket connection can be managed by a controller of the mux module.
