    • Systems and methods for modifying the area code in a wireless communication device are provided that provide authorization from the carrier. The wireless communication device contains a table of valid area codes in persistent memory. The table defines the complete set of area codes that can be used by the wireless communication device. The wireless device is capable of receiving an instruction from the network that causes the current area code to be changed to a new area code from the table of valid area codes. Alternatively, the wireless device is capable of receiving an instruction from the network that causes the current table of area codes to be replaced with a new table of area codes that is received from the network along with the instruction. After installation of the new table of valid area codes, then the wireless communication device can be instructed to change from the current area code to a new area code in the new table of valid area codes.

    • A wireless communication device contains a speed-dial storage area containing one or more user-entered destination telephone numbers. An additional memory area contains the plurality of sets of additional digits to be added to the user-entered destination telephone number. The user associates one or more additional sets of digits to a selected user-entered destination telephone number. A control processor automatically adds the associated set of additional digits whenever the user-entered destination telephone number is selected. The sets of additional digits may be pre-programmed by the service provider or programmed by the user. The sets of additional digits may include codes for features such as caller identification transmission, caller identification blocking, message waiting cancellation, and the like. In addition, other sets of digits, such as area codes and other prefixes may be pre-programmed by the service provider or the user. The additional sets of digits may be added to all subsequent calls to the selected user-entered destination telephone number until the control processor is selectively disabled. The processor may be disabled by manual intervention by the user or by turning the power-off to the wireless communication device.

Feature codes for configuring a device 10 are encrypted into a Short Message System (SMS) message or an Internet protocol-based Over-the-Air (IOTA) protocol message and transmitted to mobile device 10. The message further contains a mobile identifier and a set/reset bit to indicate whether the features are to be set or reset. The encrypted message is communicated to mobile device 10 over communications channel 14 of a mobile communication network.

    • Systems and methods are provided that enable a wireless communication device to send a predetermined data object to a destination address for the companion wireless communication device in an active voice call. When an active voice call is in session, a data object is identified such as an image captured by an integrated digital camera. A destination address module obtains the destination address of for the companion wireless communication device and the data object is then sent to the destination address over a data communication channel that is established simultaneously with the active voice call.
