摘要： A method of forming a metallized mirror coating on a light diffusing optical fiber (110) includes contacting an end face (118) of a second end (114) of a light diffusing optical fiber (110) with a metallized mirror precursor. The light diffusing optical fiber (110) includes a first end (112) opposite the second end (114), a core (120), a polymer cladding (122) surrounding the core (120) and coplanar with the core at the end face (118) of the second end (114), an outer surface (128), and a plurality of scattering structures (125) positioned within the core (120), the polymer cladding (122), or both, that are configured to scatter guided light toward the outer surface (128) of the light diffusing optical fiber (110). The method also includes heating the metallized mirror precursor such that the metallized mirror precursor bonds to the core (120) and the polymer cladding (122) at the end face (118) of the second end (114) thereby forming a metallized mirror coating on the end face (118) of the second end (114).

摘要： A water sanitizing system including a supply system having a supply conduit with a conduit length; a light-diffusing optical fiber in the conduit that substantially spans the conduit length; and an ultraviolet light source configured to inject ultraviolet light rays into the fiber. The fiber includes: (a) a first end and a second end, the ends defining a fiber length, (b) a core region comprising fused silica having a plurality of scattering sites, and (c) a cladding over the core region, the cladding having an outer photocatalyst region doped with a metal oxide. The cladding may comprise a polymer coating. The fiber is configured to propagate the light rays from the first end toward the second end of the fiber, and scatter the rays in substantially radial directions out of the core region of the fiber at the plurality of scattering sites, and through the photocatalyst region.

摘要： Discretely tunable laser systems include a continuously tunable laser for outputting a beam tunable among selectable frequencies, the selectable frequencies are separated in frequency by discrete frequency intervals, the discrete frequency intervals include a maximum interval and a minimum interval, where a difference between the maximum interval and the minimum interval is 100 MHz or less, and an external stabilization circuit coupled to the continuously tunable laser and a controller. The external stabilization circuit includes a first photodiode generating a first signal corresponding to a portion of the beam and an interferometer that produces resonances upon incidence of another portion of the beam. The resonances are equally spaced in frequency, with each defining one of the selectable frequencies. A second photodiode generates a second signal corresponding a transmission beam generated by the interferometer. The controller tunes the continuously tunable laser among the selectable frequencies based on the first and second signals.
