    • A safety fuel tank and filler cap arrangement is disclosed wherein the cap attaches to an internal combustion engine having a fuel tank and a starter or ignition system. The tether that connects the cap to the engine ignition or starter is an electrical conduit that can disable the engine so that it will not run or start if the cap is separated from the fuel tank such as when a user wants to fill it with gasoline. In one embodiment, a switch arrangement is contained entirely within the cap. In another arrangement a ring attaches to the tether and a conventional cap engages the ring to enable ignition when the cap is added to the fuel tank.

    • A centrifugal, shaft-driven clutch apparatus includes an engine shaft for providing rotary power, the engine shaft having a free end portion and an open ended bore that communicates with the free end portion. A centrifugal clutch assembly includes a clutch bushing member having a shaft bore for affixing the bushing member to the shaft. The bushing member provides an internal bore and an outer surface. The clutch assembly includes a clutch housing member with an internal bore, and the clutch housing rotates upon the clutch bushing member at the internal bore. A first port extends between the shaft bore and the clutch bushing for transmitting lubricant from the shaft bore to the clutch bushing member. A second port extends through the bushing member bore to the outer surface thereof. A channel forms a communication between the first and second ports for transporting lubricant between the first and second ports. A fitting provides an inlet portion for receiving lubricant, and is attached to the shaft bore. The fitting includes an enlarged head portion that retains the clutch assembly upon the shaft during use.

    • In one embodiment disclosed is a safety fuel tank and filler cap apparatus for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine that can be started with a magnetoelectric generator, comprising an exposed fuel tank having a fill opening, an annular fuel filler flange surrounded by an adjoining fuel tank wall having outer surface, said flange having a central axis; a filler cap having a cap center, the cap being connectable to the fuel filler flange to form a closure of the tank at the fill opening when the cap center generally aligns with the flange central axis, said filler cap and adjoining fuel tank outer surface being configured to enable a user to grip and turn said fuel filler cap, at a position next to the tank wall; and a mechanism interfaced between the fuel tank and filler cap that is activated to a safety mode when the engine is at an elevated, operating temperature, said mechanism including a connector that interfaces between the outer surface of the fuel tank and the cap. In another embodiment disclosed is a powered implement, comprising: a frame; an internal combustion engine mounted on the frame, said engine including a magnetoelectric generator for starting the engine; the frame and engine supporting an exposed fuel tank having a tank wall and a fill opening through said tank wall for receiving fuel for powering the engine; a fuel filler flange on said tank surrounded by an adjoining fuel tank outer surface, said flange extending a short distance from tank wall and surrounding the filler opening; a filler cap that fits the fuel filler flange to form a closure of the tank at the fill opening, said filler cap and adjoining fuel tank outer surface being configured to enable a user to grip and turn said fuel filler cap; and a device interfaced between the fuel tank and filler cap that responds to an attempt by a user to open the filler cap when the engine is at an elevated, operating temperature that is near the ignition temperature of the fuel that powers the engine.

    • A motorized cart apparatus includes a cart frame having front and rear portions and a wheel base defined by a pair of front steerable wheels and a pair of rear wheels. A seat is positioned between the front and rear wheels and a motor drive or engine positioned at the rear end portion of the frame behind the seat an adjacent the rear wheels. Brake and accelerator pedals are positioned side by side at the front of the cart inside the front wheels and on opposite sides of the steering column, and inclined steering rod that extends from the frame upwardly toward the user. A throttle cable controls the motor. The throttle cable is activated by a pushrod extending between the accelerator pedal and the engine. A brake pushrod extends between the brake pedal and rear brake so that when the brake pedal is depressed, the pushrod activates the brake. A linkage extending from the brake pushrod to the throttle returns the throttle to an idle position when the brake pedal and accelerator are simultaneously depressed as when the car driver panics. An alternate embodiment provides a contact switch that is activated by the brake and brake pushrod. The contact switch is connected to a solenoid via an electrical wire that signals the solenoid to activate when the brake pedal and brake pushrod are moved as during braking. The solenoid has a pushrod that rotates the governor to an engine idle position.
