The device comprises a housing and a light source disposed within the housing for producing the light based identification alert. The device further includes a processor configured to control activation of the light source in response to receiving a light source control request from a remote source. The processor is further configured to receive an override command for overriding the light source control request so as to prevent the remote source from controlling the light source. In various embodiments, the light source includes one or more activation modes, including a visible light mode and an invisible light mode.
