    • The present invention relates to a method and circuitry for determining a spreading factor in a communication system with variable data rates. In such a system the received signal may include a plurality of data symbols that are spread in the transmission signal in a manner that is defined by a spreading code and a spreading factor, the spreading factor being one of a plurality of possible spreading factors. In accordance with the method, the received signal is processed so as to produce signal outputs which are cleared from the effects of the spreading code, autocorrelation values are computed for the signal outputs, and the spreading factor is determined based on the computed autocorrelation values.

    • A solution for optimizing beamforming configurations and transmit power allocation configurations in a telecommunication system comprising a base station and a plurality of user entities is provided. The base station and the user entities are capable of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications, i.e. capable of communicating through spatial subchannels. The base station calculates iteratively optimal beamforming configurations for the base station and for each user entity and transmit power allocation configurations for each spatial subchannel used in MIMO communications. The base station carries out the calculation on the basis of channel state information received from the user entities by utilizing the information on correlation of different spatial subchannels, i.e. interference between the subchannels, in order to update beamforming configurations and transmit power allocation configurations.

    • A method, apparatus, and computer program for cooperative transmission are provided. A re-transmitter for a data packet determined as not having been received at a re-ceiver correctly is selected amongst the potentialre-transmitters in a cooperative transmission mode. In more detail, the re-transmitter is selected amongst an original transmitter of the data packet and assisting transmitters configured to assist transmission of the original transmit-ter. The assisting transmitters receive the data packet in the original transmission, unless errors occur in the reception at a given assisting transmitter, and are candidates for the retransmission in case the original transmission results in erroneous reception at the receiver.

    • The invention relates to a method of transmitting data from a transmitter to a receiver in a radio system, and to a radio system. The method includes the following: channel-coding the data using selected channel-coding; dividing the channel-coded non-interleaved data into signals with different contents, to be transmitted via at least two different transmitter antennas; providing the signal to be transmitted via each transmitter antenna with an identifier, by means of which identifier the signals transmitted via different transmitter antennas are distinguishable from each other in the receiver; transmitting the signals to the receiver using different transmitter antennas; detecting the signal transmitted via each transmitter antenna with a receiver receiving each transmitter antenna in the receiver, and combining the detected signals into received channel-coded non-interleaved data; decoding the channel-coding of the received channel-coded non-interleaved data; and the receiver attenuating interference utilizing the decoded data.
