    • Techniques are disclosed for systems and methods to provide monitoring systems including one or more modular cameras and at least one application-specific base. The application-specific base may include features and/or components corresponding to a particular type of monitoring. A monitoring system includes at least one modular camera that first establishes a communication link with an application-specific base and then downloads a monitoring system application corresponding to the application-specific base. After a modular camera receives the monitoring system application, the modular camera performs the application in order to capture monitoring information corresponding to the particular type of monitoring supported by the application-specific base.

    • Techniques are disclosed for systems and methods to provide dynamic data management for a system having one or more cameras such as network cameras. A camera system may include one or more network cameras and a remote device. The remote device may receive camera data from one or more of the network cameras according to data management settings for the camera system. The data management settings may be determined by the system based on an available bandwidth determined based on an exchange of test data between the camera and the remote device. The data management settings can be determined during setup of one or more network cameras and/or during operation of one or more network cameras. The data management settings may include settings for video data to be transmitted over the network such as a resolution, a frame rate, a number of video channels, or other settings.

The operations may be initiated in response to placing a user device having proximity-based communications circuitry in proximity of a camera having proximity-based communications circuitry. The user device and the camera may exchange information responsive to placing the user device in the proximity of the camera. The information may include network information sent from the user device to the camera and/or camera information sent from the camera to the user device. The network information may include information associated with a network. The camera may be connected to the network using the network information. The camera may be added to list of accessible cameras on the user device when the camera is connected to the network. The proximity-based communications circuitry may be Near Field Communications circuitry.

    • Various techniques are disclosed for providing electrical power and/or data from the interior of a building structure to a device at the exterior of the structure without piercing (e.g., making a hole through a wall or window frame) the structure. A camera surveillance system for an embodiment includes self-adhesive energy transfer units that can be placed on either side of a window so that electrical power is passed via the energy transfer units from inside a building to the outside without the need for making a hole in the window or building through which to pass electrical wire to feed power and/or data to/from the camera surveillance system. One of the energy transfer units may be integral with the camera surveillance system and the adhesive may be strong enough to support the weight of the camera surveillance system on the window. The camera surveillance system may be installed without the need for tools.
