    • First and second angles are measured from a nominal camera centerline to respective first and second positions. The first position is determined by the camera locating a first centerpoint in a first board. The second position is determined by the camera locating a second centerpoint in a second board. The first and second angles, and first and second horizontal distances of the camera from the first board and the second board, respectively, are used to obtain a determined vertical distance and a determined angle. The determined vertical distance measures a distance from the second centerpoint to a point determined by an intersection of a first line through the second board and a second line that is parallel to the floor and has an endpoint at the camera. The determined angle measures an angle of between third line extending from the camera in the nominal position and the second line.

    • A lane departure warning system has a trailer detector for detecting that a trailer is attached to a vehicle, a lane boundary detector for detecting a position of a lane boundary on a roadway over which the vehicle is travelling, and an information processor including a calibrator for generating calibration parameters used in determining an unintended lane departure event with respect to the lane boundary. The information processor initiates a process for allowing an operator to provide trailer width information when the trailer detector indicates that the vehicle is towing a trailer. The lane departure warning system also includes a sensor for detecting a hitch angle between the vehicle and the trailer. A controller determines a lateral offset of the trailer relative to the vehicle based on the hitch angle and a length of the trailer for generating a warning signal when the lateral offset crosses the lane boundary.

    • Apparatus for a vehicle operated on a roadway having lane markers includes an optical sensor providing optical data of the roadway. A first lane model is stored in an electronic memory in response to detected lane markers in the optical data. An electronic horizon system tracks a position of the vehicle and provides roadway data in response to the position. A second lane model is stored in the electronic memory in response to the roadway data. A confidence checker compares a discrepancy between the first and second lane models to a threshold in order to determine a confidence level. An output selector selects the first lane model when lane markers are detected in the optical data, and selects the second lane model if the lane markers are not detected in the optical data and the confidence level is greater than a predetermined level.
