    • A blood processing apparatus (1) comprises a measurement device (8) having a first chamber element (80) for measuring a haematocrit value of a blood fluid, the first chamber element (80) comprising a first inlet port (800) connectable to a first reservoir container (2) for allowing a flow from the first reservoir container (2) into the first chamber element (80) and a first outlet port (801) for allowing a flow out of the first chamber element (80), and the second chamber element (81) comprising a second inlet port (810) for allowing a flow into the second chamber element (81) and a second outlet port (811) connectable to a second reservoir container (3) for allowing a flow out of the second chamber element (81) towards the second reservoir container (3). The blood processing apparatus furthermore comprises a first pump mechanism (600) for pumping a blood fluid in a flow direction (F1) from the first reservoir container (2) towards the blood processing apparatus (1), and a second pump mechanism (610) for pumping a blood fluid in a flow direction (F2) from the blood processing apparatus (1) towards the second reservoir container (2). Herein, the first pump mechanism (600) is located upstream of the first inlet port (800) of the first chamber element (80) and the second pump mechanism (610) is located upstream of the second inlet port (810) of the second chamber element (81). In this way a blood processing apparatus comprising a measurement device is provided which in an easy and reliable manner allows for a measurement of in particular a haematocrit value in the incoming blood flow as well as the outgoing blood flow.

    • The invention relates to a device for processing an initial liquid medium (4) comprising cells in an initial concentration in order to obtain a product liquid medium (4′) comprising cells in a product concentration, the device (2) comprising a separator (6) adapted to separate the initial liquid medium (4) into various constituents, a first supply system (8) for supplying the initial liquid medium (4) to the separator (6), a first outlet system (12) for extracting the product liquid medium (4′) from the separator (6), a sensor (22, 22′) adapted to measure a physical parameter related to the concentration of the cells in the initial or product liquid medium (4, 4′), and a control unit (24) coupled to the sensor (22, 22′) and adapted to control at least one process of the device (2) as a function of the physical parameter measured by the sensor (22, 22′). The device is characterized by a second supply system (10) for supplying a solution (18) to the separator (6) with a given flow rate. The flow rate of the solution (18) in the second supply system (10) during its supply to the separator (6) is determined based on the at least one process parameter.

    • Disclosed is an apparatus and method for determining the liquid level of salvaged blood in a blood collection reservoir (11) of an autologous blood transfusion system (20), comprising sensing means (10, 12) for periodically sensing the liquid level of the salvaged blood in said blood collection reservoir (11) and outputting corresponding signals, and determining means (2) for determining the liquid level of the salvaged blood in said blood collection reservoir (11) based on said output signal of said sensing means. The sensing means comprises a plurality of light emitters (12) disposed on a first side of said blood collection reservoir (11) at different height levels (L1-L9) for emitting light and a plurality of light receivers (10) disposed at said different height levels (L1-L9) on a second side of said blood collection reservoir (11) opposite to said first side for sensing light emitted by said light emitters (12) and transmitted through said blood collection reservoir (11). Parameters of the optical set-up used for detection and signal analysis may be adjusted individually and dynamically so that disturbing effects caused e.g. by absorptive films on the inner surface of the blood collection reservoir (11) may be identified and prevented to thereby enhance the reliability of signal detection and analysis.
