    • A print system in which an image supply apparatus and a print apparatus directly communicate with each other, and the print apparatus prints an image based on image data supplied from the image supply apparatus, the image supply apparatus comprises a designating unit adapted to designate a print image from image data which is stored in a storage unit; a setting unit adapted to set a printing condition including a trimming range and a print size of the print image; a modifying unit adapted to resize image data of the print image based on the printing condition set by the setting unit; and a transferring unit adapted to transfer the image data of the print image resized by the modifying unit, and information of the trimming range to the print apparatus, the print apparatus prints an image based on the image data and the information of the trimming range.

    • An image capturing apparatus senses a subject by an image sensor to acquire image data, detects a face from the image data, estimates a distance from the image sensor to the detected face in a real space, obtains first and second depths of field based on a focal length, an f-number, and the estimated distance/a distance in the real space to an in-focus point when acquiring the image data used to detect the face, calculates a first and second scan ranges based on the first/second depths of field and the estimated distance/the distance to the in-focus point, detects the in-focus point based on a contrast signal acquired while driving the focus lens in the first or second scan range selected by a selection unit, which selects the first scan range if at least part of the first and second scan ranges overlaps, otherwise does not select the first scan range.

    • An image sensing apparatus, such as a digital camera, directly communicates with a printer so that a printer with a photo-direct printing function normally prints a file containing raw and encoded image data. When the digital camera side selects a file containing raw and JPEG images, and the printer has a raw image printing function, the selected image file is directly output. When the file containing the raw and JPEG images is selected, and the printer does not have the raw image printing function, it is decided whether the size of the selected image file exceeds the upper limit size acceptable to the printer. If the file size exceeds the upper limit size, the raw image data is removed to reduce the file size, and the obtained data is transmitted to the printer. When an upper limit is not set, the selected image file is directly transmitted.

    • An image pickup element capture an image of an object, and detailed unique information relating to the captured image is automatically associated with the image through pattern recognition so that the image is easily managed. A pattern detector performs the pattern recognition on an image obtained through a pre-photographing operation, and a result of the recognition is stored in a memory. A code comparator compares stored a preceding recognition result with the latest recognition result obtained through the pattern recognition performed using the pattern detector. In accordance with a result of the comparison, the stored recognition result is updated. When it is determined that a predetermined pattern is not included in the image obtained using the image pickup element, the recognition result stored in the memory is associated with the captured image.
