    • A telecommunications cable and separator spline are disclosed. In one embodiment the cable comprises a cable jacket defining an elongate cable core, a conductor assembly comprising four twisted pairs of conductors disposed along the core and a plurality of parallel elongate localised and like distensions in an inner surface of the cable jacket. The distensions are substantially evenly spaced about an inner surface of the cable jacket and prevent the conductor assembly from coming into contact with the inner surface. In particular embodiment, the distensions are the result of a series of filler elements placed between the cable jacket and the cable core and which wind helicoidally along and about the cable core. The separator spline is comprised of first and second elongate dividing strips having a substantially H shaped cross section and arranged side by side. The spline twists helicoidally along its length. In particular embodiment the separator spline and the insulation surrounding the twisted pairs of conductors is manufactured form a material having the same dielectric constant.

    • The invention provides a composite wrapping and shielding tape for use in cable manufacture. Embodiments of the composite tape comprise a single tape configuration to separate and shield individual pairs of insulated conductors housed within a cable such as a high-speed data communications cable. The single tape configurations of the invention are multifolded and assembled from foil/film laminates to form a plurality of longitudinal channels or grooves to accommodate one or more pairs of insulated conductors and a variety of cable designs. During cable manufacture, one or more pairs of insulated conductors is wrapped within a continuous shield provided by each longitudinal channel or groove, thereby separating and shielding each pair of insulated conductors and, hence, isolating or at least substantially reducing crosstalk between pairs of insulated conductors contained within the cable. The invention also provides methods for making a multifolded composite tape. The invention further provides a communications cable comprising a multifolded composite tape to separate and shield insulated conductors.

    • The present invention is for a high performance data cable which has an interior support or star separator. The star separator or interior support extends along the longitudinal length of the data cable. The star separator or interior support has a central region. A plurality of prongs or splines extend outward from the central region along the length of the central region. Each prong or spline is adjacent with at least two other prongs or splines. The prongs or splines may be helixed or S-Z shaped as they extend along the length of the star separator or interior support. Each pair of adjacent prongs or splines defines grooves which extend along the longitudinal length of the interior support. At least two of the grooves have disposed therein an insulated conductor. The star separator in particular improves control of near end cross-talk and allows for the achievement of positive ACR ratios when twisted pair conductors are disposed in the grooves. The interior support can have a first material and a different second material. The different second material forms an outer surface of the interior support.
