The UE may comprise hardware processing circuitry to determine a coverage enhancement category for the UE based on downlink channel statistics related to reception of downlink signals at the UE from an Evolved Node-B (eNB) and an uplink-downlink imbalance parameter related to uplink reception at the eNB. The hardware processing circuitry may be further to select, for use in a coverage enhancement mode, a PRACH preamble from a set of candidate PRACH preambles based on the determined coverage enhancement category for the UE. In some embodiments, at least some of the candidate PRACH preambles may span a different number of sub-frames.

摘要： An eNodeB (eNB) and user equipment (UE) are provided that detect whether the UE is in coverage enhancement mode and if so uses a modified version of the Radio Link Control (RLC) configuration in communications between the eNB and UE. Detection mechanisms may differ between the eNB and UE and may include direct signaling between the eNB and UE, the ability to receive control signaling only through particular modified signaling procedures, low power of certain received control signals or lack of response to certain control signals within various predetermined time periods. The modified RLC configuration permits a smaller amount of data than a standard RLC configuration to be transmitted by a transmitting device before a receiving device is able to be polled for information regarding reception by the receiving device of the transmitted data.

In some embodiments, a mobile device may receive one or more traffic packets related to an establishment or a re-establishment of a service at the mobile device, and may select a duplex mode for the service. In some embodiments, the mobile device may be an IEEE 802.11 Station (STA). The mobile device may be configured to select full-duplex as the duplex mode when a delay requirement associated with the service is less than a predetermined delay threshold and when a calibration overhead associated with the mobile device or the service is less than a predetermined calibration overhead threshold. In addition, the mobile device may also be configured to select time-division duplex (TDD) or frequency-division duplex (FDD) as the duplex mode when the delay requirement is less than the delay threshold and when the calibration overhead is less than the calibration overhead threshold.
