摘要： Instruction cache behavior and branch prediction are used to improve the functionality of a computing device by profiling branching instructions in an instruction cache to identify likelihoods of proceeding to a plurality of targets from the branching instructions; identifying a hot path in the instruction cache based on the identified likelihoods; and rearranging the plurality of targets relative to one another and associated branching instructions so that a first branching instruction that has a higher likelihood of proceeding to a first hot target than to a first cold target and that previously flowed to the first cold target and jumped to the first hot target instead flows to the first hot target and jumps to the first cold target.

摘要： This disclosure provides a solution for improving performance in a virtual machine. In this method, a platform independent intermediate representation of a code segment in an application is obtained from a first virtual machine which is operating on a first platform. The platform independent intermediate representation is generated through a run-time compilation by the first virtual machine. Native code is generated based on the platform independent intermediate representation, in which at least one piece of the native code corresponds to a second platform which is different from the first platform. The at least one piece of the native code is distributed to a second virtual machine which is operating on the second platform.

摘要： A method for more efficiently utilizing data compression in block-level storage systems is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method includes receiving, by a storage system, I/O operations from a host system. The storage system determines, at a selected interval, a compression rate of data associated with the I/O operations. Using the compression rate determined at the selected interval, the storage system updates an average compression rate. The storage system then determines whether the average compression rate is above a threshold. If the average compression rate is above the threshold, the storage system compresses data associated with I/O operations from the host system. If the average compression rate is not above the threshold, the storage system does not compress data associated with I/O operations from the host system. A corresponding system and computer program product are also disclosed.

摘要： A system and a method for scheduling a reduce task on nodes is disclosed. The various nodes in a cluster of nodes are bucketized into intermediate data items. A counter is created that provides a count of the intermediate data items that are placed into the each of the buckets for the node. This counter value is provided to a scheduler. From the counter information the scheduler is able to determine the cost of moving the intermediate data for the bucket to different ones of the nodes. Once the cost of moving the intermediate data is determined the scheduler is able to determine which of the nodes should perform the reduce task for that particular bucket. The scheduler minimizes the amount of shuffling of the intermediate data between the nodes for each of the buckets, by determining the lowest cost shuffle option for each of the buckets.

摘要： The present principles are directed to identifying and classifying web traffic inside encrypted network tunnels. A method includes analyzing network traffic of unencrypted data packets to detect packet traffic, timing, and size patterns. The detected packet, timing, and size traffic patterns are correlated to at least a packet destination and a packet source of the unencrypted data packets to create at least one of a training corpus and a model built from the training corpus. The at least one of the corpus and model is stored in a memory device. Packet traffic, timing, and size patterns of encrypted data packets are observed. The observed packet traffic, timing, and size patterns of the encrypted data packets are compared to at least one of the training corpus and the model to classify the encrypted data packets with respect to at least one of a predicted network host and predicted path information.
