    • In a radio access network (24) a femto radio base station (28f) comprises a resident receiver (54) which acquires system information broadcast in a radio access network (24). At least part of the system information is used for building, at the femto radio base station (28f), a neighbor data structure (59) comprising information for neighboring cells. The neighbor data structure (59) is then used for building a neighbor list. The neighbor list is subsequently transmitted from the femto radio base station (28f) to a user equipment unit (30) served by the femto radio base station (28f). In some example embodiments and modes, the femto radio base station (28f) reports the neighbor data structure to a network node (26, 100) other than the femto radio base station. The other node (26, 100) uses the neighbor data structure for building the neighbor list at the other node. In some example embodiments and modes, acquisition of the system information comprises scanning a surrounding macro coverage area of the femto radio base station for obtaining cell identity information for detected cells. In other example embodiments and modes, the acquisition of the system information can additionally comprise camping on a macro cell and using/consulting at least one system information block in the camped-on macro cell is consulted/used for obtaining information about at least one neighboring cell.

    • A communications network (20) that comprises packet core network entity (22) and a heterogeneous radio access network (23). The heterogeneous radio access network (23) comprises plural base station nodes, including at least one macro base station node (28M) and at least one low power base station node (28L). The packet core network entity (22) generates a list (30) of tracking areas using an indication of cell type (32M) for the macro base station node and an indication of cell type (32L) for the low power base station node. The list (30) generated by the packet core network entity comprises the tracking area for the macro base station node and the tracking area for the low power base station node. In an example embodiment the indication of cell type indicates whether the cell served by the respective base station node is a macro cell or a low power cell.

    • Methods and apparatus are provided for operating a telecommunications network (20) which comprises at least one femtocell and at least one macrocell, each femtocell and each macrocell being associated with a Tracking Area. The method comprises (when a wireless terminal (30) accesses a femtocell or possibly a cell in the vicinity of the femtocell) including an identifier of the femtocell in a Tracking Area Identity list provided to the wireless terminal (30), and thereby enabling the wireless terminal (30) to avoid performing a Tracking Area Update when moving between the femtocell and another tracking area included in the Tracking Area Identity list. The method also comprises (when the wireless terminal (30) is to be paged) initially issuing a paging message only to a portion of the cells having corresponding identifiers included in the Tracking Area Identity list. Optionally the method also comprises determining that the wireless terminal (30) is accessing the telecommunications network (20) through a femtocell.

    • A method for operation and maintenance of Access Points in a wireless communications network, and a network node and an access point for use in such a network. Access points are used for connecting wireless networks to core networks. The method comprises the step of first receiving, at a network node, an on-demand triggered request for status information, wherein the request includes an access point identity. The network node investigates, using the received access point identity, if the access point is registered. If the access point is registered, then the network node uses the access point identity to retrieve access point address information. The network node uses the retrieved address information to establish a connection with the access point. Thereafter the network node receives access point status information.
