    • An on-vehicle display apparatus includes a motor, a gear train, a threaded rod, a slider screwed to the threaded rod, and a display main body rotatably connected to the slider. The lead angle of the threaded rod is set greater than the friction angle thereof. The gear train includes first and second gears facing each other. Protrusions provided on one of the first and second gears are fitted in recesses provided in the other. A spring member elastically urges the first gear toward the second gear. A detection sensor detects the size of an external force on the basis of the displacement of the first gear against the spring member in the axial direction. The motor is controlled on the basis of the detection result of the detection sensor such that the display main body is moved away from the external force.

The nut member has a substantially cylindrical female screw engaged with a male screw of the screw shaft, and the nut member is elastically biased in both the radial direction and the thrust direction of the screw shaft by the spring member. In this construction, if the elastic biasing force in the radial direction of the spring member holding the nut member in pressing contact with the screw shaft is set small, the female screw of the nut member does not move over the male screw of the screw shaft, so that a small torque suffices for the motor rotating the screw shaft, which is effective in achieving a reduction in the size of the motor and the entire head feeding mechanism including the motor. Further, the thrust play of the nut member due to backlash is removed, making it possible to prevent a malfunction attributable to external vibration, such as a dropout.

A second groove for containing a lubricant is formed on the screw shaft having the same pitch as that of the thread groove. The second groove retains lubricant scraped out of the thread groove by the engagement member. Therefore, lubricant is reliably supplied to the sliding surfaces between the screw shaft and the shaft bearing, thereby eliminating problems caused by increased friction or seizure, and thereby improving the head feeding accuracy.

As the screw shaft moves, it pushes against a drive member, which in turn causes a support member to rotate so that the optical head is cleaned by a cleaning member provided on the support member, and is covered by a shutter, which is also formed on the support member.
