An Internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) client registers with an IMS network and establishes a media independent handover (MIH) session with an MIH application server using a session initiation protocol (SIP). The IMS client establishes a session for IP-based service, (e.g., voice over IP (VoIP)), with a communication peer using an SIP. MIH messages are exchanged for handover with the MIH application server over IP. After handover, the session is resumed. A serving call session control function (S-CSCF) triggers the MIH application server based on a string “MIH services” and a unique identifier included in an INVITE request. The IMS client may send a REFER request to the MIH application server after the handover to resume the session. Alternatively, the IMS client may send a RE-INVITE request to the MIH application server and the communication peer.

摘要： The present invention modifies existing media independent handover (MIH) function (MIHF) frame format as defined by the IEEE 802.21 standard. In one embodiment, the variable load of the MIHF frame is modified to eliminate the MIHF variable header by defining the MIHF identification (ID) field and the session ID field as fixed fields in the MIHF fixed header. Thus, the MIHF variable load is only made up of the MIHF payload. In another embodiment, a field such as an information element (IE), a header, or MIH service data such as a command or an event, is represented by a type field, a length field and a value field (TLV). The length of the value field is exactly 128 octets, and the length field only occupies one octet.

摘要： A method and apparatus of performing selective internet protocol (IP) selective offload (SIPTO) or local IP access (LIPA) is disclosed. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) receives a broadcast message from a Node-B. Then the WTRU receives a message from the Node-B that SIPTO service, or LIPA service is available for that WTRU. The WTRU then communicates using the SIPTO or LIPA service. A method an apparatus for receiving a paging message for SIPTO or LIPA services is also disclosed. The paging message includes an indicator that indicates that the message is for SIPTO or LIPA communications. The indicator may be a temporary mobile subscriber identity (TMSI) assigned by the network specifically for SITPO or LIPA communications. The indicator may also be a single bit designated to indicate that a paging message is a for SIPTO or LIPA traffic.

摘要： A method and apparatus for performing non-voice emergency services (NOVES) between a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and a public safety answering point (PSAP) is disclosed. A NOVES session may be initiated by sending a NOVES initiation request message that includes information relating to the NOVES capabilities of the WTRU, and information relating to an emergency situation. The information relating to the NOVES capabilities of the WTRU may include an indication of whether the WTRU supports a fake power-off mode, or whether the WTRU supports PSAP control. Other methods are disclosed that include a method for a PSAP combining a multiple NOVES sessions, and a method for handing over a NOVES session having multiple media streams.
