    • A floor system for a fuselage section of an aircraft is provided. The floor system has an essentially self-supporting design and is substantially mechanically separate from the fuselage section as primary structure. Consequent to the free or self-supporting design of the floor system in the fuselage cell, the layout of the floor system along an aircraft axis can be matched to customer specifications in a simple manner without reference to structural boundary conditions of the fuselage structure. A floor surface for the floor system is formed from a number of floor elements which can be fitted with functional elements, wherein filling of empty spaces or cavities can be achieved with a number of floor equalization elements. As the floor elements have a relatively large support or fixing surface the loads induced by the functional elements are introduced into the floor system distributed over a large area such that the structural components thereof can be of a structurally lighter and thus weight-saving size.

    • To save space it is often not possible to provide a comfortable seat beside a bed, for example for a second flightdeck crew. Normally, sitting on a bed is not comfortable for extended periods of time. The present invention states a backrest arrangement which can be changed from a foldaway position to a seating position. The backrest arrangement can be hinged to a wall. In foldaway position, the distance between a lower region of the backrest and the essentially vertical surface is shorter than in the seating position. In this way the backrest arrangement can for example be attached to a wall beside a bed; in the seating position the backrest arrangement provides a comfortable and safe seat.

    • Seating groups for passengers, for example in an aircraft cabin, are equipped with several seats having seat components supported on a support base on which the seat components, especially the seat sections are laterally slideable to make the seats wider when a passenger sits on a seat or narrower when a passenger is not sitting on a seat. The seat widening or narrowing is accomplished in several ways, for example, with the aid of a grooved shaft that operates as a spindle when turned by tilting a seat component, or by springs that vault upwardly when not loaded and spread when a passenger sits on a seat supported by the springs. The grooved shaft can be operated for example by an armrest or a seat section.

    • A luggage compartment system for a passenger cabin, especially for commercial airliners, is equipped with compartment units each formed by at least two compartments interconnected or coupled through a coupling, guide and drive mechanism (13) for moving the compartments of a unit from a closed upper position to an open lower position and vice versa. Each unit has a large compartment and a small compartment, the latter is intended for smaller luggage items, including fragile items, while the larger compartment is intended for large luggage including suitcases. In the closed position the two compartments of a unit are arranged next to each other in a direction extending crosswise to a longitudinal central vertical plane (10) through the aircraft cabin. The compartments have for their bottom contoured panels that are integrated into the ceiling of the cabin in the closed compartment position. The coupling, guide and drive mechanism (13) moves both compartments of a unit either up or down, whereby the compartments in their down position are located just above the passenger seats for loading and unloading with the smaller compartment being positioned above the larger compartment. Openings in the compartments face the central plane.
