    • Technology and techniques to page mobile devices and establish connections between mobile devices and small cell base stations in a heterogeneous network (HetNet.) A macro base station pager may transmit an enhanced paging message, the enhanced paging message to include an indication that the paging message may be answered through a small cell base station. A small cell base station configurator may transmit configuration information to the small cell base station. The small cell base station may transmit a beacon and a mobile device may establish a relay connection with the small cell base station to connect the mobile device to the macro base station through the small cell base station based at least in part upon the beacon. Furthermore, a macro base station backhauler may establish a backhaul connection with the small cell base station to communicate signals with the small cell base station related to the relay connection.

    • A probability that one or more contacts may be selected is determined. The probability that one or more contact may be selected may be determined based on one or more information types stored in a device and which may be used by a prediction engine module to determine the probability that one or more contacts may be selected by a user. Such information types may include location information of the user and location information associated with contacts in a contact list; distance to a particular location; time, both absolute and relative to times associated with calendar entries, and the like. High probability contacts may be assembled and displayed in a predictive contact list.

    • Methods and apparatus for providing a presence service for contact management functions such as user address books. The presence service, in an exemplary embodiment, assembles contact entries into abstract groupings and defines event packages specified by the user that enable the user to be notified about presence information dynamically. For example, a subscribed user may receive presence service information for all entries in the users address book that are in close geographical proximity to the subscribed user. In one variant, the storage and calculation of presence information is performed at a centralized location, thereby sparing the user's device from utilizing unnecessary calculation resources and avoiding unnecessary network bandwidth utilization in order to receive presence information of interest. User device-based variants are also disclosed. Business methods utilizing the aforementioned presence service offerings are also provided.

In one variant, the data encoding comprises weighting frames of data from different base stations using an orthogonal matrix. Advantageously, the encoding and embedded identifier are also transparent to legacy UE, thereby allowing for implementation with no infrastructure or UE modifications other than software. Network and user apparatus implementing these methodologies, and methods of doing business, are also disclosed.

    • Communication control server and method for forming a common communication session from a first and second communication sessions, each with a plurality of communication session participant communication devices, which are respectively associated with a respective participant server and use the respective participant server to participate in the respective communication session. Each of the first and second communication sessions is controlled by a respective communication session control server. A request to combine the communication session participant communication devices in the common communication session prompts one of the two communication session control servers to request a common communication session from the other communication session control server using a fusion request message. One of the two communication session control servers sets up the common communication session and transmits a fusion message to each of the participant servers. The respective participant server associates its associated communication session participant communication device with the common communication session.
