摘要： One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that analyzes relationships between authorization and installation information for a software product. During operation, the system receives a set of authorization information that is associated with a transaction for a software product from a point of sale system at a retail location. The system also receives installation information for the software product from a computer system. The system determines whether the authorization information and the installation information are associated by checking whether the two sets of information share a common set of identifying information. If so, the system analyzes the associated authorization information and installation information to determine a relationship between the transaction and the associated installation of the software product.

摘要： One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for using retail authorization to reduce the initial value of a software product. During operation, the system receives an initial bill for an un-activated version of the software product. Because this un-activated version is not fully functional, it has a lower value than a functional version of the software product, and hence the initial bill charges for a lower initial cost. During the sale of an un-activated version of the software product, the system activates the un-activated version from a point of sale system. After the sale, the system receives an additional bill for activating the software product.

During operation, this system receives purchase information from a first location, where the purchase information includes information about purchased software features to which a user purchased access and where the purchased software features are provided by a first subset of modules in the software product. Next, the system receives an access request from a second location from which the software product can be accessed, where the access request includes an identifier provided to the user when the user purchased access to the purchased software features. Next, the system provides configuration instructions to the second location, where the configuration instructions dynamically enable the first subset of the modules.

摘要： A method and apparatus for determining the existence of an undesired connection between an electrical system and a desired single-point ground. The electrical system is first disconnected from the desired single-point ground, and is connected to the center point of a resistive divider connected to an isolated voltage source. The voltage of the center point of the resistive divider is monitored and an indication is provided if the monitored voltage indicates the existence of undesired ground paths. The invention also includes elements for measuring the resistance value of a detected undesired ground path, thereby facilitating identification and removal thereof. The invention also includes a voltage clamp which is placed between the electrical system and the desired single-point ground when the electrical system is disconnected from the single-point ground. This voltage clamp provides personnel protection during undesired ground path detection so that, if a power line fault to ground occurs, the electrical system is still protected.
