摘要： A television signal receiver having an emergency alert function provides a masked list of emergency events during a user setup process for the emergency alert function which makes the setup process easier for users, and also ensures that the emergency alert function will be activated when certain important emergency events occur. According to an exemplary embodiment, the television signal receiver includes a memory operative to store data associated with the emergency alert function. A processor is operative to receive an input representing a geographical area and to enable generation of a masked list of emergency events responsive to the input using the data in the memory. The masked list of emergency events represents a subset of all emergency events associated with the emergency alert function.

摘要： An apparatus and method is presented for receiving and displaying user messages associated with multimedia content. Specifically, the present invention is directed to controlling the operation of a television recording/playback system to permit a user to input a message, associate that message with a selected television program, and display the associated message when the selected television program is accessed by another user (see FIG. 1). The apparatus of the present invention is directed to a system for managing multimedia content including devices for storing television programs and associating with those programs user-generated messages for display to other system users. In this way, the present invention provides content management tools that promote sharing by all users, ease the process of establishing a consensus for managing limited resources, and encourage monitoring by the administrator.

摘要： An apparatus (20) such as a television signal receiver provides an emergency alert function that avoids interrupting a user's program viewing and/or listening activities when the emergency alert function is activated, but still allows the user to be informed regarding emergency events. According to an exemplary embodiment, the apparatus (20) includes a first tuner (22a) operative to tune a first channel including an emergency alert signal. A second tuner (22b) is operative to tune a second channel including at least one of audio and video content. A third tuner (22c) is operative to tune a third channel including at least one of audio and video content responsive to the emergency alert signal.
