摘要： A receiving unit 200 receives, from broadcast stations (10, 11), EPG information related to all the programs to be broadcast on a plurality of channels. A program recommendation unit (300) extracts, from the programs indicated in the EPG information, a recommended program, which is estimated to meet the user's preferences, in accordance with history of program recording or program viewing by the user. A subscription suggestion unit (400) counts the broadcast frequency for each of the channels of recommended programs and for each day, and then compares the counting result with a threshold value, thereby suggesting to the user, via a display unit (20), that he or she makes or cancels any one of subscriptions to the channels in accordance with the broadcast frequency of recommended programs.

摘要： A program recording/playback apparatus for easily recording/playing back a program that matches a common preference between multiple viewers is provided. A recording/playback apparatus 100 obtains program recommendation information from a server apparatus 300, and retrieves program recommendation information from within. Based on these two pieces of program recommendation information, the recording/playback apparatus 100 generates and combines two search formulas, to generate one search formula. The recording/playback apparatus 100 then identifies one or more programs that satisfy the conditions shown by the one search formula, within EPG data extracted from received broadcast waves, thereby generating program presetting information. The recording/playback apparatus 100 generates a recorded program table based on the generated program presetting information, and displays the recorded program table. The recording/playback apparatus 100 then receives a user's selection indicating one or more of the programs shown by the recorded program table, and reads and plays back the selected programs.

When the designating unit designates items in succession while advancing to a deeper level of the menus, the display control unit controls the display unit to preserve in the display screen not only the first region but also a second region that has a second length extending in the first direction and being shorter than the first length and to display at least a part of the menus in the second region.

摘要： A recording apparatus contains a timer that measures the current time based on a time zone. When writing a VOB onto a DVD, the recording apparatus refers to TM_ZONE recorded on the DVD, and judges whether the time zone which the timer is based on matches the time zone that the TM_ZONE specifies. If the two time zones do not match, the recording apparatus operates as follows. First, the recording apparatus obtains VOB_REC_TM that indicates the recording date/time of the VOB based on TM_ZONE. The recording apparatus then writes the VOB onto the DVD together with VOBI that is information of the VOB and contains (a) the obtained VOB_REC_TM; (b) LOCAL_TZ_TY indicating that the two time zones do not match and (c) LOCAL_TZ specifying the time zone which the timer is based on.
