    • A vehicle occupant detection apparatus includes an image pickup device for imaging an area including a position of a vehicle occupant within a vehicle compartment, a light emitting element for emitting auxiliary light into the compartment that includes the imaging area of the pickup device, and a storage section for storing imaging information provided by the pickup device. The vehicle occupant detection apparatus further including a comparison section for comparing imaging information provided through further imaging by the pickup device and the imaging information stored in the storage section, to provide a difference between the imaging information provided through the further imaging and the stored imaging information, and an abnormality determination section for determining abnormality of the imaging information on the basis of the image information difference.

    • This seatbelt apparatus of a vehicle is provided with: a seatbelt; a belt reel on which the seatbelt is wound; a motor that drives a rotation of the belt reel; a controller that controls a driving amount of the motor; a winding position detection device that detects a winding position of the belt reel. The controller performs a first control mode in which a substantially constant electricity is supplied to the motor, and a second control mode in which the electricity supplied to the motor is controlled based on a predetermined rule; and sets an initial value for the second control mode based on changes in the winding position detected by the winding position detection device, while changing from the first control mode to the second control mode.

    • Thermal transfer printing method and apparatus are provided to make initial character image data left on a spent ink ribbon illegible. In the method, after forming an initial character image on an ink layer in black of the ink ribbon, a forefront of the ink layer is aligned with a forefront position of an intermediate transfer film. Then, overwrite character image data is applied on a thermal head to produce a first superimpose character image on the ribbon and a first superimpose character image on the film. After that, the forefront position of the ink layer is shifted from the forefront position of the film by a predetermined distance and the overwrite character image data is applied on the thermal head to produce a second superimpose character image on the ribbon and a second superimpose character image on the film.
