摘要： A method and a system for scheduling requests generated for a plurality of mobile devices in a communication network (100) has been disclosed. The requests are generated for a transmission opportunity. The method includes computing a sort metric (302) for each request, based on an information update. A lead-time is then computed (304) with respect to a drop-dead time for each request, based on the sort metric for a time slice. The drop-dead time for a given time slice is the time before which scheduling has to be done so that data can be transmitted during the given time slice. Each request may be considered (306) for allocation in the time slice before the beginning of a next time slice, based on the lead-time.

Pursuant to one approach, the agent supports translation of the mobile station's end-to-end protocol-based messages to Internet Protocol-based messages that are readily ported through an Internet Protocol-friendly communication system infrastructure that preferably eschews the use of network elements that rely upon unique and/or proprietary non-Internet Protocol interfaces. Pursuant to another approach the wireless access point is able to interact on a peer-to-peer basis with other wireless access points in order to facilitate, for example, handovers and other mobility management tasks.

摘要： Systems and techniques for scheduling of use of resources by wireless devices and allocation of resources among devices. Information is received relating to channel efficiency experienced by a user equipment and also to the channel efficiency experienced by other user equipments. The information may include channel gain. Scheduling and resource allocation are performed so as to provide service to each device while minimizing interference penalties imposed by devices on one another. Scheduling and resource allocation may be evaluated and conducted through a number of mechanisms, such as ranking users according to transmit power, ranking user equipments according to target signal to noise ratios, and evaluation of relative advantages to users with the evaluation being performed resource block by resource block. The various metrics take into account both advantages to a particular user equipment under consideration and detrimental effects on other user equipment.

The wireless access point then automatically effects at least one of establishing a communication between itself and the second wireless access point regarding the change in wireless connectivity and/or establishing a temporary data tunnel as between itself and the second wireless access point. These network elements can also act to automatically establish a data flow path for the mobile station as between the second wireless access point and a network element (such as a mobility management agent (105)) that is external to the common subnet. In a preferred approach this comprises, at least in part, automatically sending a registration request to the network element other than in response to a specific request from the mobile station to send such a registration request.
