    • The invention comprises compounds of formula , where R is an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R1, R11 are H or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a is 1 to 3, b is 0 to 2, a + b = 3, and n is 1 to 6. The compounds are prepared by reacting silanes of the formula (R1)b(OR)a-Si(CH2)nNH2 and an alkylene sulphide. The compound may be used as adhesive additives for liquid polysulphide polymer based sealant and caulking compositions. The liquid polysulphide polymer curing agents which may be used in these compositions include polyepoxy resins, lead peroxide, calcium peroxide, barium peroxide, tellurium dioxide and various chromous salts. Such curable compositions may also contain fillers, plasticizers, pigments, ultraviolet light stabilizers and cure accelerators. The compounds and are prepared in the examples. In Example 3, the compound is used as a primer on aluminium, stainless steel and glass. The polysulphide polymer based sealant composition is then applied and cured. The composition contains polysulphide polymer, calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, hydrated silica, calcium stearate, stearic acid and sulphur and is mixed with a lead dioxide-chlorinated biphenyl plasticizer admixture before application to the substrates.ALSO:Substrates are coated with a curable sealant composition comprising a polysulphide polymer and an organosilicon compound of the formula (R1)b (OR)a Si(CH2)n NH.CH(R11) CH2SH, where R is an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms R1, R11 are H or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, a is 1 to 3, b is 0 to 2, a + b = 3, and n is 1 to 6. Substrates include those of a wood nature, those of a silicaceous nature such as glass, and those of a metallic nature such as aluminium, iron and steel, and zinc and/or chrome coated iron or steel. Polymers of molecular weight 500 to 4000 are preferred curing agents which may be used include polyepoxy resins, lead peroxide, calcium peroxide, barium peroxide, tellurium dioxide and various chromous salts. The compositions may also contain fillers, plasticizers, pigments, ultraviolet light stabilizers, and cure accelerators. In example 3, aluminium, stainless steel and glass are coated with a primer of an ethenolic solution of b -mercapto ethyl amino propyl triethoxy silane. The polysulphide polymer is then applied and cured. The sealant used contains polysulphide polymer, calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, hydrated silica, calcium stearate, stearic acid and sulphur, and is mixed with a lead dioxide chlorinated bisphenyl plasticizer admixture before application to the substrates.
