The techniques may include receiving, at an electronic device (such as a smart phone or tablet computer), a plurality of files for upgrading a component of the electronic device. The electronic device may select a file of the plurality of files that is indicative of being configured to upgrade the component to a next version of a chronological sequence of versions of the component. The electronic device may also upgrade the component using the selected upgrade file. Also, the electronic device may repeat automatically, without human intervention, the selecting and the upgrading until the component is upgraded to a target version of the sequence of the versions.
