    • In an embodiment, state of a wireless channel on which information is received is measured; the measured state is used to select from a codebook a plurality of N codewords which optimize a predefined measure, and first and second codewords of the plurality are reported which best optimizes and next-best optimizes the predefined measure. If by example the above is done by a user equipment UE, in another embodiment the network receives first and second indications, searches a codebook using the first and second indications to find the first and second codewords; and utilizes them to improve the channel state information, such as by interpolating between them to find an estimate of the channel. In examples the channel is a MIMO channel that is estimated at two or more antenna ports, there are interpolation weights sent with the codeword indications, and the interpolating uses a geodesic algorithm.

In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises at least one processor and a memory storing a set of computer instructions, configured. The processor is configured to cause the apparatus to determine a linear phase variation between at least first and second transmissions from first and second transmission points based at least in part on a propagation delay difference between the first and second transmissions, and transmit the phase variation information for at least the first and the second transmissions. An apparatus configured to operate as a transmission point in a network receives linear phase variation information indicating phase variation experienced by at least one user equipment resulting from a propagation delay difference between at least the apparatus and a second apparatus operating as a second transmission point and manages transmission so as to control phase variation resulting from the propagation delay difference.

From a different perspective, the fixed rank r is derived and signaled to user equipments UEs operating in a serving cell; there is received from a UE in the serving cell a report indicating the at least one rank-r codeword; and an indication of the at least one rank-r codeword is forwarded to the neighboring cell. Methods, apparatus and computer programs are detailed as well as embodiments in which different ranks are used for different neighboring cells and narrowband/wideband PMI reporting which can also be different for different neighboring cells.

    • Signalling information relating to Multiple Input Multiple Output MIMO channel state information characteristics that a user equipment UE determines to be highest priority for a downlink is transmitted uplink from a the UE to a node of a cellular wireless network. The UE receives an indicator from the node indicating a preferred basis of the highest priority signalling information. The UE compiles the highest priority signalling information according to the preferred basis, and sends the compiled signalling information to the node. If the UE determines that the number of MIMO layers preferred for use for the downlink is one, then signalling information is sent in different messages indicating a first and second codeword respectively, the first codeword being selected to be a closest codeword to an intended MIMO channel state information characteristic, and the second characteristic is selected to be a less close codeword.
