摘要： A system for managing medical waste received in one or more containers placed at one or more medical facilities, for instance, for improved scheduling is disclosed. In some embodiments, the system comprises tracking modules coupled to the one or more containers, wherein each tracking module comprises, a plurality of LEDs positioned opposite to a plurality of light sensors, wherein each of the LED is being configured to periodically project a light beam towards a light sensor among plurality of light sensors for detecting a fill level of the container, and a controller in communication with the plurality of LEDs and the plurality of light sensors, wherein the controller is being configured for, periodically triggering the plurality of LEDs for projecting the light beams, receiving output data of the plurality of light sensors, the output data representing the fill level of the container, and communicating the fill level to a server.

摘要： A surgical sponge counter includes a unitary molded plastic sponge tray defining a plurality of wells each sized to hold a lap sponge. Each well has a ledge defining a recess below the sponge for collecting fluid once the sponge is replaced in the tray. A needle counting receptacle tray may be nested within the sponge tray above the sponges.

摘要： Apparatus and methods for identifying and counting objects having identifiers entering and exiting a surgical field are provided. In one embodiment, the apparatus has an entry scanner, a hand held scanner and an exit scanner for generating a detection field and for receiving data which identifies said objects. In another embodiment, the apparatus has a plurality of lower antennas and an upper antenna for generating a detection field and for receiving data which identifies said objects. Various surgical devices with identifiers and methods for preventing electromagnetic coupling between and protecting objects and identifier are also provided. The invention further provides apparatus and methods comprising a handheld scanner and a mat adapted to underlie a patient during a surgical procedure.

摘要： A pharmaceutical waste disposal assembly (10) for disposing of raw pharmaceutical waste comprises a first receiver body (19) and a first reaction agent (287). The first receiver body (19) receives the pharmaceutical waste. The first receiver body (19) includes a receiver bottom (283). The first reaction agent (287) is positioned within the first receiver body (19) and spaced apart from the receiver bottom (283). The pharmaceutical waste reacts with the first reaction agent (287) to change the pharmaceutical waste in one of a chemical and physical manner so that the pharmaceutical waste is unrecoverable. The first receiver body (19) can receive fluid pharmaceutical waste and/or solid pharmaceutical waste. The first reaction agent (287) may include one or more of a denaturant, an emetic and a tittering agent. For example, the first reaction agent (287) may include one or more of quinine, ipecac and denatonium benzoate.

摘要： A surgical sponge and fluid monitoring system and method are provided. The system includes a support ring for securely supporting a container with at least one port opening for placing sponges into the container through the port opening with the aid of gravity. The support ring includes IR emitters and sensors that blanket IR beams across the port opening. The support ring is mechanically linked to a load cell in the system. The processor, with novel methods, reliably detects when sponges are placed into the container through the port opening, counts the number of sponges in the container, sorts the types of sponges, and calculates fluid loss for a patient in a surgical procedure. A user interface in the monitoring system keeps the medical professionals in the OR fully informed.
