摘要： A process of forming a shaped, dimensionally stable tampon includes the steps of: radially compressing a tampon blank to form a dimensionally stable intermediate pledget having an intermediate pledget diameter and a longitudinal axis; placing the intermediate pledget into a hollow carrier and inserting the intermediate pledget and hollow carrier into a mold; urging the intermediate pledget into the mold via a ram bearing on an end of the intermediate pledget contained within the hollow carrier and withdrawing the hollow carrier from the mold to permit the exposed end of the intermediate pledget to substantially fill the mold and to form the shaped, dimensionally stable tampon; removing the shaped, dimensionally stable tampon from the mold; and enclosing the shaped, dimensionally stable tampon in a primary package that conforms to the shape thereof. The mold has an access opening through which the hollow carrier can be withdrawn.

The wrapper is closed at both ends and has a longitudinal seam area in which overlapping portions of the flexible, sheet-like material are attached. The longitudinal seam area comprises a substantially longitudinal attachment zone with a first edge and a second edge that defines a seam area. The line of weakness has a first end disposed within the seam area at a distance from a first end of the wrapper package; extends through a gap in the substantially longitudinal attachment zone; continues generally circumferentially about the wrapper; and terminates at a second end disposed within the seam area at the second edge of the substantially longitudinal attachment zone. The line of weakness extends across the seam area, and the wrapper can be removed as a single piece.

The wrap includes a sheet having an inner surface and an outer surface as well as an adhesive that is applied to at least one half of the perimeter of the inner surface of the sheet. A feminine device having an insertion end, a withdrawal end, and a withdrawal member, the withdrawal member having a proximal end nearest the withdrawal end of the feminine device and a distal end disposed opposite the proximal end is provided. The feminine device can be at least partially enclosed by a wrapper. The wrapper can have a first end disposed adjacent to the insertion end, a second end opposite the insertion end, and a longitudinal axis. In certain embodiments, the wrapper can have a cord reservoir at the second end of the wrapper, the cord reservoir being adapted to contain at least a portion of the withdrawal member within the cord reservoir. In addition, the cord reservoir can have a length measured along the longitudinal axis from the distal end of the feminine device to the second end of the wrapper of at least about 1 mm.

The catamenial device has a tapered insertion end, a longitudinal axis, and a length less than the first length, such that the open end of the overwrapper material extends beyond the insertion end of the inserted catamenial device. Concave clamping jaws are applied to the open end of the overwrapper material to urge it toward the longitudinal axis of the catamenial device; to conform portions of the overwrapper material to the insertion end of the catamenial device; and to fold overwrapper material between adjacent clamping jaws to form fins extending outwardly from the conformed portions.
