    • Systems and methods are disclosed relating to acquisition of images regarding large area objects or large areas. In one exemplary embodiment, there is provided a method of obtaining or capturing, via a first system that includes one or more first image capturing devices, overview images, wherein the overview images depict first areas, as well as obtaining or capturing, via a second system that includes a plurality of image capturing devices, detail images characterized as being related to each other along an image axis. Moreover, the detail images may depict second areas that are subsets of the first areas, they may be arranged in strips parallel to the image axis, and they may have a higher resolution than corresponding portions of the first images.

    • A system for space-based imaging in three dimensions comprises: at least two satellites in a geocentric orbit in the same orbital plane, a satellite being equipped with equipment for optical imaging in two dimensions and means for transmitting to the ground the images in two dimensions; at least one data receiving station on the ground, connected to a communications network; at least one centre for processing the images received in two dimensions from the said satellites in order to create resulting images in three dimensions and to broadcast the said resulting images in three dimensions, said processing centre being connected to the said communications network; and, means for controlling said satellites such that a geographical area of the Earth of which images are to be taken is seen under an angle of incidence with respect to the nadir greater than a minimum threshold and/or less than a maximum threshold.

    • An instrument for of observation images exhibits a high ground resolution and a high frequency of coverage of the Earth. Such an instrument includes a spatial images acquisition layer (1) including satellites (4), a terrestrial images processing layer (3), including images processing devices (5), and a telecommunications layer (2) that is suitable to ensure a transfer of the images from the spatial layer (1) to the terrestrial layer (3), wherein each satellite (4) includes at least one images acquisition device with fixed aim exhibiting a spatial resolution of the order of one meter; each images processing device (5) includes at least one communications line (8) coupling the images processing device (5) and at least one immediately adjacent images processing device, a processing unit that is suitable to process the images received, element for storage of the processed images, and a connection to a digital network.
