摘要： This invention relates to a stirrup iron (1) comprising a two part construction including a first, fixed part (3), and a second, moveable part (5). The fixed part (3) comprises a body and the moveable part (5) comprises an L-shaped arm pivotally mounted to the fixed part (3).The moveable part (5) is pivotable to and from a first operating position in which a step portion (15) of the moveable part (5) forms a closed loop stirrup, and a second operating position in which the step portion (15) is located below and spaced apart from the fixed part (3) thereby forming a foot-step. The stirrup iron (1) further comprises a releasable locking mechanism, a foot plate (19) mounted on the fixed part (3) and a cam mechanism connecting the foot plate (19) to the moveable part (5). Depression of the foot plate (19) will cause the cam mechanism to act on the moveable part (5) urging it from the second operating position towards the first operating position.

摘要： A stirrup assembly for aiding a rider when mounting a horse provides a stirrup assembly wherein part or all of the side of a stirrup can be rotated down into a locked horizontal position to become a step. The act of pulling down the movable side part compresses a strong return spring. When the movable side part is fully down, a latch is set which keeps it from returning. What was part of the stirrup side can now be used as a step for mounting and is quickly returned to its original upright position by the return spring when the rider steps on the latch release.

摘要： An extendable stirrup has a main stirrup and a retractable step parallel to and slideably attached to the main stirrup. The retractable step has an upper lift portion and a lower step portion. A latch holds the retractable step in the retracted position for riding. For mounting, the user releases the latch thereby allowing the retractable step to automatically descend to an extended position. The user places a foot on the lower step portion of the retractable step to assist in mounting a saddled animal. After mounting the saddled animal, the user engages the upper lift portion with his boot and raises the retractable step to a retracted position whereby the latch holds the retractable step in the retracted position adjacent to the main stirrup.

The extendable stirrup assembly includes an conventional fixed stirrup with an upper (top) foot plate for supporting the rider's foot during riding, and a retractable bottom foot plate retractably attached to the upper stirrup with an extension mechanism that provides about 4-8 inches of vertical travel (extension). The bottom foot plate travels easily between an open (extended) and a closed (retracted) position. The bottom foot plate provides a lower “step” for the rider to use when mounting the horse. A latching mechanism can be used when riding the horse.
