    • Disclosed is an apparatus and method for characterizing attributes of a moving glass sheet comprising complementary mechanical material handling technologies that progressively stabilize, position, capture, flatten, and release the lower portion of glass sheets traveling past the apparatus while posing minimal constraint on the top section of the sheet. The apparatus includes a pressure-vacuum (PV)-type device comprising distinct regions such that the glass sheets experience a non-contact but gradual increase in constraining force until the point where measurements can be performed, then a gradual decrease in constraining force until the glass sheets are released from the inspection station. This graduated force technique is applied along the direction of travel of the sheets and may also be applied vertically upwards along the height of the sheet to restrict the motion of the sheet without constraining it at pinch points near the conveyor.

    • A glass substrate transporting apparatus aims to load or unload a quartz bracket into or from multiple reactors. It includes a track, a carriage, a rotary element and a telescopic fetching rack. The reactors are located at two sides of the track. The carriage has four track wheels movable on the track and multiple motors to synchronously drive the four track wheels. The rotary element is located on the carriage. The telescopic fetching rack is located on the rotary element. Through movement of the carriage on the track and rotation of the rotary element, the telescopic fetching rack can sequentially align and enter the reactors to load or unload the quartz bracket, thus amount of the reactors to be utilized is increased and utilization efficiency of the glass substrate transporting apparatus is improved. Moreover, as the carriage can move quickly on the track, production is also increased.

    • A system for producing upper plates of flat fluorescent lamps (FFL upper plates) is disclosed. In the system, various units used for producing the FFL upper plates are placed on or around multi-storied conveyors of a conveying unit, so that the area and space required to situate the various units is minimized. The system also allows an FFL upper plate producing process, including glass panel feeding, glass panel heating, glass panel shaping to provide an FFL upper plate, FFL upper plate heat-treatment, and FFL upper plate discharge, to be executed quickly and continuously in real time, thus maximizing work efficiency and productivity when producing the FFL upper plates. The system includes a conveying unit having a plurality of conveyors placed to form a multi-storied conveyor structure, first and second transfer units placed at opposite ends of the conveying unit, a glass panel feed unit to feed glass panels onto the conveying unit, a heating unit to further heat the glass panels on the conveying unit, a shaping unit to shape the heated glass panels, thus providing FFL upper plates, a heat treatment unit to slowly cool the FFL upper plates, and a product discharge unit to discharge the FFL upper plates from the conveying unit to the outside of the system.
