    • Method for removing and reclaiming excess uncured paint from a paint spray booth includes entraining uncured over-sprayed paint particles in a stream of air passing through the paint spray booth. The entrained over-sprayed paint particles are then caused to come into contact with a flowing aqueous flood sheet within the paint spray booth such that a substantial portion of said paint particles are solubilized within the flowing aqueous flood sheet and thereby removed from the stream of air. The flowing flood sheet includes (i) between about 10 to 45 percent by weight of an N-methyl pyrrolidone, (ii) between about 15 to about 40 percent by weight of at least one alkyl glycol ether having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in its alkyl moiety; and (iii) about 0.1 to about 2.0 percent by weight of a non-ionic linear alcohol ethoxylate surfactant sufficient to reduce the flood sheet vapor pressure. The solubilized uncured paint particles are thereafter separated and collected from the aqueous flood sheet so as to thereby be reclaimed for future use.

    • A method is provided for environmentally benign paint spraying with a dispersion of oven-curable lacquer in water in a paint spraying station having a cubicle with water-rinsed rear wall for collecting and washing out of overspray in cubicle waste water. The entire cubicle waste water is separated by ultrafiltration into permeate and lacquer-containing residue, the permeate being returned to the paint spraying station, the lacquer-containing residue being enriched with lacquer by removing water until its lacquer content is essentially equal to that of dispersion that is freshly fed to the spray painting station. The residue that is enriched with lacquer is admixed to the freshly fed dispersion for reuse in spray painting. A constituent for preventing coalescence of the lacquer is admixed to the dispersion fed to the paint spraying station, wherein a constituent for the inhibition of the drying is admixed to the dispersion that is fed to the paint spraying station, a constituent for adjusting the throughput for ultrafiltration is admixed to the cubicle waste water, and the conductibility of the water returned to the paint spraying station is monitored and kept below the limit.

    • The present invention relates to a novel method for coagulating waterborne paints in paint spray booth recirculating water. The coagulant aid comprises a polynucleate hydroxy silicate-sulphate compound (hereinafter PASS) having the following average composition of the general formula:Al(OH).sub.B (SO.sub.4).sub.C (SiO.sub.X).sub.D (H.sub.2 O).sub.Ewherein B ranges from 0.75 to 2.0; C ranges from 0.30 to 1.12; D ranges from 0.005 to 0.1; X is greater than 2.0 but less or equal to 4.0 such that3=B+2C+2D(X-2)E is 1.5 to 4 when the product is in solid form; and E is larger than 4 when the product is in aqueous form, which may optionally be used together with alum or a mixture of alum and a polyamine. The coagulant aids of this invention may also be used advantageously with detackifying agents to simultaneously detackify and coagulate solvent based paint particles.
