    • A sewing machine thread feed for a supplying sewing thread to a sewing machine, the feed including: a guide mechanism for guiding sewing thread to a needle of the sewing machine; first and second spools carrying first and second filaments respectively, one of the spools carrying a low-melt filament and the other carrying a textile filament; first and second retention mechanisms for retaining the first and second spools respectively in position against force applied to them when filament is drawn off; the first and second filaments run from the first and second spools respectively to the guide mechanism; wherein the first filament runs from the first spool, through the centre of the second spool, so that the action of the second filament, when being drawn off the second spool, causes inter-winding of the first and second filaments to create composite sewing thread.

    • A method is disclosed in which a silver (2) of textile fibers is drawn in a drawing mechanism (3), strengthened in a wrapping unit (4) by wrapping with a fine filament yarn into a roving (5) and the latter is drawn in the drawing mechanism (11, 12) of a spinning machine down to the desired yarn thickness. Rupture of the filament yarns in the drawing mechanism of the spinning machine takes place not in the predrawing zone but only in the main drawing zone. For wrapping of the roving a filament yarn is employed, the tension in which at an elongation of 4% amounts to at least 10 N and the ultimate strength of which amounts at most to 100 cN, and in which the ratio of elastic elongation to total elongation at a loading of 15 CN does not fall below the value of 80%. The wrapping unit (4) is surrounded with a stationary casing one half (45a) of which may be swung out. After the swinging out the complete hollow spindle (42) together with its bearing (44) and bobbin (43) with the filament yarn for wrapping may be removed. The roving are wound in precision winding on a bobbin (7) by a driving roll. The bobbins are then conveyed overhead in a container made as an unwinding creel (9) to the spinning machine and there brought into working position.

    • A wrapped yarn spinning machine with several spinning units arranged in a row in side-by-side relationship on at least one side of the machine has a zone of the hollow spindle of each spinning unit, protected by being enclosed within a single closed housing that extends in the longitudinal direction of the machine. The closed housing is provided with a lid at each spinning unit at a front side of the machine. The lid has a height corresponding to at least the height of a side wall of the closed housing and through which binder thread spools, carried by the hollow spindle, can be removed. Bearing housings within which the spindles are rotatably supported are sealingly joined to the bottom of the closed housing at least in an operative condition of the hollow spindles, and the spindles have a portion which project out of the bearing housings in a direction toward take-up devices for the spun wrapped yarn, and which are driven by a drive, such as a belt drive extending in the longitudinal direction of the machine.
