    • A variable-diameter rotor comprises a hub with a shaft and rotor blades, wherein each of the rotor blades comprises a radially internal blade part and a radially external blade part. In each of the rotor blades, a jackscrew mechanism is arranged therein and includes a jackscrew arranged in the radially internal blade part and a nut connected with the radially external blade part, the nut cooperating with the jackscrew for radially moving the radially external blade part with respect to the radially internal blade part. The rotor further comprises an energy storage system, including a compressed-gas accumulator. The compressed-gas accumulator comprises a volume of gas and a piston for compressing and expanding the volume of pressurized gas. The energy storage system also includes a means for converting a radial motion of the radially external blade part into a motion of the piston of the compressed-gas accumulator and vice-versa.

    • A system for converting wind power to electrical energy has a peripheral frame, sails interconnected to the peripheral frame, radial struts extending from the hub to the peripheral frame, wheels mounted on the peripheral frame, electric generators interconnected with respective wheels, and a hub about which the peripheral frame is rotatable. The hub is in electrical communication with the electric generators. Sails may be interconnected with the peripheral frame on respective masts, each mast having a base and the mast being pivotable about the base. The electric generators may be mounted on a variety of locations, such as the peripheral frame. Each electric generator may be interconnected with a respective wheel via a belt, a chain or other mechanism. The system may include arrangements to generate electricity from sunlight.

    • A wind turbine for producing electricity using wind. In a power generating section, a driving shaft, columns, and a guide shaft are installed between a base frame fastened to a support plate and a cover frame positioned above the base frame. Guide rails are fastened to the columns to define closed loops which surround the driving shaft, guide shaft and columns. Sail structures each of which can be adjusted in its wind pressure acting area by means of a geared motor and a coil spring are connected to sprocket chains provided in the guide rails such that the sail structures can be moved along the guide rails by wind force to rotate sprocket chains and sprockets of the driving shaft which are meshed with the sprocket chains. Two power generating sections are installed to transmit power generated by the driving shaft to an auxiliary sprocket through power transmitting chains.

    • A Vertical Axis Wind Turbine comprising: A hub housing an alternator or generator, gearbox, arbor, tachometer and programmable logic controller. At the upper outer radius of the hub is a track supporting the landing gear for the wind rotor. Above the hub a large elongated wind rotor is attached to the arbor with landing gear that ride on the track. The rotor is the support structure providing anchoring for masts, sails and boom control systems. Attached to the top/center of the rotor is a tower with cables supporting the outer perimeter portions of the rotor arms. At the top of the tower is a weathervane and position controller. Fabric sails are attached to the mast assemblies and controlled by resolvers. When the wind causes rotation the programmable logic controller adjusts the sails to best catch the wind regardless of wind direction or their position while the rotor is rotating.

    • Opposing windmill airfoil blades extend from a central hub and are connected thereto by a pair of cables secured to the inner ends of the blades and which each freely engages through the opposite ends of a cross member secured to the hub. These cables then extend to a reel on the hub thus forming a triangular configuration to support each airfoil blade. The reel is driven by a small reversible electric motor which extends and retracts the cables and hence the blades depending upon the tension in the cables which is sensed by a sensor which in turn actuates the electric motor. As the wind speed increases in velocity, the cables lengthen and vice-versa. Guide vanes or control tail wings extend from adjacent the inner ends of each of the airfoil blades and are fixed in manufacture thus automatically presenting the desired angle of attack of the airfoil blades to the wind. The rigidity of the cables, due to centrifugal force, allows the rotation of the assembly to rotate the shaft extending from the hub which may drive a generator. Conventional yaw control means are provided to maintain the blades in the desired direction relative to the wind direction.
