    • A readily releasable wedge assembly for holding a wire rope in a socket comprises first and second wedge components and a release assembly. The first and second wedge components are joined together adjacent respective first ends thereof at a pin connection. The first and second wedge components have respective second ends opposite the first ends, which are spaced from the first ends in a longitudinal direction. The first and second wedge components are pivotable relative to each other about the pin connection and together define an outer periphery shaped to receive a wire rope. The release assembly is positioned between the second ends of the wedge components. The release assembly is threadedly actuatable to release the first and second wedge components from an expanded position and reconfigure the wedge assembly into a contracted position allowing the wedge assembly to be removed from a socket.

    • A captivated wire rope assembly can comprise a wire rope, shackle, ferrule, and wire rope thimble having an element retaining feature. The element retaining feature can ensure that all of the assembly components remain together for the life of the assembly by rendering it impossible to remove or replace the shackle or other rigging element without apparent damage to the system. The element retaining feature can be, for example, a substantially triangular gusset welded to one thimble leg, but not the other. Disclosed methods for making such a captivated wire rope assembly require no welding after the wire rope has been placed in the thimble, thus preventing damage to the wire rope or other assembly components.

    • Force transfer assemblies are provided for transferring forces from tensionable members to receiving structures. The assemblies may include nested thimbles that transfer respective forces from respective tensionable members to receiving structures such as cylindrical members. An outer thimble may transfer force from an outer tensioned member to a receiving structure without causing compression of an inner tensioned member. For example, the outer thimble may transfer forces by way of the inner thimble or to a boss of the receiving structure. Forces from a tensioned member or assembly of tensioned members may be distributed along a cylindrical member by a thimble having a convex bearing surface or by spaced thimbles disposed along the cylindrical member.

    • A rope loop (15) sheathed by at least one protective sleeve can be anchored in the floor (12) with its two rope ends (13, 14) in a wire rope anchor, in particular for rockfall or avalanche protection systems. The rope ends (13, 14) are pressed together with a connection piece (20). This connection piece (20) comprises a connection part (22) for connecting a longitudinal element (25) that can also be anchored in the floor (12) on the side facing away from the rope ends (13, 14). In this way the wire rope anchor can then be affixed to conventional anchor rods representing the longitudinal elements.
