    • A belt drive cantilever tensioner. The tensioner is particularly suited to belt drive systems having a high belt tension. The tensioner comprises a pulley journaled to a cantilever arm. The cantilever arm is pivotably attached to a mounting surface by a fastener at a pivot. The cantilever arm further comprises a hole disposed radially from the pivot for containing an embedded resilient member. A second fastener extends through the resilient member fixing it in a position relative to the first fastener. A load applied to the pulley causes the arm to pivot thereby causing a lever action to exert a force upon the resilient member. The resilient member has a limit of movement as well as an asymmetric force characteristic which increases in proportion to an arm rotation.

    • The invention comprises a tensioning idler. An outer belt bearing ring is resiliently engaged to an inner ring. The belt bearing ring and inner ring each rotate about an axis of rotation. The belt bearing ring is connected to the inner ring with the resilient material whereby the belt bearing ring rotates about an axis of rotation that is eccentrically moveable in a plane with respect to an inner ring axis of rotation. The resilient material imparts a belt tension as the belt bearing ring rotates. The resilient material may comprise springs, compressible fluids, incompressible fluids, or elastomers or a combination of the foregoing. The tensioner is mounted on an engine, bracket, or other device.

    • A belt steering apparatus for controlling inclined movement of the belt in, for example, a printer. The belt steering apparatus includes a first frame supporting a cylindrical roller having a predetermined portion which contacts an endless rotating belt, a second frame hinged to the center of the first frame, and a sliding member capable of sliding linearly, installed at one side of the first frame, and having an upper surface supporting a rotary shaft formed at one end of the roller, inclined from the direction of linear movement by a predetermined angle. A rack gear is provided on one side of the sliding member, and a pinion gear is connected to a rotary shaft of a motor mounted to the first frame, contacting a predetermined portion of the rack gear to linearly move the sliding member. Thus, the roller is easily tilted to forcibly raise and lower one side of the roller, and the pressure transferred from the belt can be withstood reliably.
