    • A combustion furnace control apparatus for which an operation control system that ensures the combustion safety of the combustion furnace can be constructed easily. Interlocks pertaining to the safe operation of a combustion furnace are classified as a 1st interlock pertaining to the safe operation of the overall combustion furnace, a 2nd interlock pertaining to the combustion environment of a combustion zone and a 3rd interlock pertaining to the combustion of a burner. Whereby, a common control module judges the state of the 1st interlock and controls the overall operation of the combustion furnace; a combustion zone control module, receiving a control signal from the common control module, operates to judge the state of the 2nd interlock and prepare the combustion environment for the combustion zone; and a burner control module, receiving a control signal from the combustion zone control module, operates to judge the state of the 3rd interlock and control the operation of the burner.

    • Improved automatic ignition system (10) for gas fired devices such as boilers, clothes dryers, ranges, and the like. The system (10) is of the type including a variable resistance ignition means (16) having a particular temperature characteristic disposed in proximity to the burner (14) for igniting gas flowing therethrough when the ignition means (16) is energized. The improved system includes detection means (12) for repeatedly measuring the resistance of the ignition means (16) and for comparing such measurements, and activating means (12) for activating the gas valve opening means (56) to open the valve (60) when the detection means (12) establishes that the ignition means (16) is in the portion of its temperature characteristic where the temperature thereof is sufficient to ignite gas. The preferred system (10) also includes means (12) for detecting a flameout, means (22) for detecting a low gas pressure condition, and visual means (28) for indicating system status as well as the existence and nature of system malfunctions.

    • Disclosed is a portable waste disposal system that is designed primarily for use in marine craft, mobile homes, campers or the like. The system comprises a macerator unit for converting excrement to a liquified effluent, and an incinerator unit for incinerating the effluent. The macerator unit comprises a holding tank which receives the waste material from a toilet. When the level of the excrement within the holding tank reaches a predetermined level, and maintains that level for a predetermined period of time, the system is activated and the excrement from the holding tank is macerated by a macerator and provided to a feed compartment. A circulation pump then pumps the macerated effluent from the feed compartment through a circulation line to the incineration unit.

    • A fail-safe, self-checking ignition and control system for a gas burning apparatus having a pilot burner which is initially ignited by electric ignition means upon a need for operation of the apparatus and which in turn ignites a main burner after a flame is established at the pilot burner, the gas flow to the pilot burner being through a first valve and the gas flow to the main burner being through a second valve receiving its gas supply from the first valve. Energization of the ignition means and the two valves is controlled by circuit means of the system including a time delay device, two relays, and solid state flame detecting means. Each time the system is initially energized upon a need for operation of the gas burning apparatus, it tests the critical components of the system and acts to prevent operation of the apparatus if the failure of any such critical component is detected. In the absence of such a failure, the ignition and control system effects energization of the first valve and the ignition means and, subsequently, upon the establishment of a flame at the pilot burner, effects energization of the second valve. If the gas issuing from the pilot burner fails to ignite within a predetermined time period after initial energization of the first valve, the time delay device terminates the energization of the first valve.

    • An annunciator is adapted for use with a boiler having a flame safeguard programmer providing a first signal and a second signal representative of respective first and second occurring faults in the boiler. The programmer also provides an alarm signal when the flame of the boiler is out. The annunciator includes means responsive to the first signal for providing a fist indication representative of the first fault. Similarly, means is responsive to the second signal to provide a second indication representative of the second fault. Means is provided for inhibiting the second indication until the fault associated with the first indication has been corrected so that the second indication begins with the correction of the first occurring of the faults and terminates with the correction of the second occurring of the faults. Means is provided for resetting the annunciator when nuisance shutdowns are self-corrected. Memory means is provided for maintaining the indication of serious malfunctions they may have self-corrected. "No pilot" and "main fuel" indications are provided from a single alarm contact in the flame safeguard programmer. A time delay is provided to inhibit the indication of certain faults during an initial startup period.
