    • A reflecting prism has an input surface, an output surface, a first reflection surface, a second reflection surface, and a third reflection surface. The reflecting prism has a first refractive index, such that the first, second, and third reflection surfaces interface with an external medium having a second refractive index less than the first refractive index. This interface defines a critical angle for total internal reflection for each of the first, second, and third reflection surfaces. Light is received at the input surface of a prism body of a reflecting prism and is transmitted along a first internal optical path segment of an optical path to the first reflection surface. The angle of incidence of the first internal optical path segment with respect to the first reflection surface is greater than the critical angle for the first reflection surface, thereby causing the light to be reflected via total internal reflection.

    • A direct view telescopic sight includes objective lens, eyepiece, and prism erector assemblies. The objective lens assembly is mounted to receive light of an image from an object direction and direct the light along an optical path. The eyepiece assembly is mounted to receive the light along the optical path and to emit the light of the image along an eye-ward direction. The prism erector assembly is positioned between the objective lens and eyepiece assemblies and includes first and second prism elements through which the optical path passes. The first and second prism elements invert the image. A reticle element is disposed on or adjacent to a surface of one of the first or second prism elements to combine a reticle on the image. The image is brought into focus at only a single focal plane between the objective lens and eyepiece assemblies at a given time.

    • The image display apparatus is capable of reducing moire fringe when electric inverse-correction is performed on an image output to an image display element.
