    • A dual camera system uses a single lens and no moving parts in the optical path. A single lens directs a desired scene to a partially reflective beamsplitting mirror, thence to a pair of image sensors. For day/night operation, one sensor may be optimized for nighttime sensitivity, while the other is optimized for daytime operation. Alternatively, one optical path may have greater magnification, thus allowing electronic zooming with no resolution loss. The system may be enhanced with an image intensifier for nighttime operation; digital sensors for improved resolution, or orthogonal gyroscopic accelerometers for image stabilization. Additionally, the monochrome and color images may be produced simultaneously and ‘fused’ algorithmically, yielding an improvement in sensitivity and color resolution compared with a conventional color camera.

    • There is disclosed a camera having a first imaging medium which acquires subject image data from a subject light flux transmitted through a photographing lens; an optical path branching member which is disposed in an image pickup optical path of the first imaging medium to branch an optical path of the subject light flux; a primary image forming surface on which the subject light flux branched by the optical path branching member forms an image; and a second imaging medium which picks up the subject image formed on the primary image forming surface. When the present camera satisfies at least one of a plurality of optical conditions, the amount of shading of the light flux guided to the second imaging medium is reduced.

    • In an image capturing apparatus, a video input unit (2) captures the image of an object and sequentially acquires image data associated with the image capturing, a model data memory (6) stores model data associated with the first feature quantity calculated from a feature point of the object in a model image, a principal object detection unit (3) calculates the second feature quantity from a feature point of the object in the acquired image data, a state change estimation unit (4) estimates, on the basis of the second feature quantity and the model data, the timing when the object satisfies a predetermined condition, and an image input processing control unit (7) stores the image data corresponding to the estimated timing in an image recording unit (5). This configuration makes the image capturing apparatus acquire an image in a more proper state without large-capacity memory.

    • A combination camera and a DSC lens control method using the same, comprising a lens position check unit for checking a position of a DSC lens if electric power is applied, and a switching unit for switching the DSC lens to a closed state if the lens position check unit decides that the DSC lens is open. Thus, if the power is applied in the DVC mode after the combination camera is turned off when the DSC lens has been open, the combination camera can efficiently switch the DSC lens to the closed state to thereby eliminate a user's inconvenience of using the DVC picture-taking mode during the open state of the DSC lens, or the inconvenience of switching the mode to the DSC image-capturing mode to close the DSC lens and then switching the mode to the DVC picture-capturing mode for use.

A CPU of the stepping motor driving device switches between a first driving method in which a first applied voltage is applied to the stepping motor and a second driving method in which each pulse is divided to apply the first applied voltage over a predetermined time period and then apply a second applied voltage to the stepping motor, depending on the state of the drive frequency of the stepping motor.
