    • An image forming apparatus includes a toner image forming section, a detection section, a variation calculation section, a user setting acquisition section, an adjustment ratio calculation section, and an adjustment section. The toner image forming section forms a toner image. The detection section detects a toner density of the formed toner image. The variation calculation section obtains a variation in toner density based on the detected toner density. The user setting acquisition section acquires a user setting concerning a degree of adjusting the toner density. The user setting is set by a user. The adjustment ratio calculation section calculates an adjustment ratio which is a ratio at which the user setting is reflected, in accordance with the variation in toner density. The adjustment section adjusts the toner density based on the variation in toner density, the user setting, and the adjustment ratio.

    • An image forming apparatus includes: a forming unit configured to form an image on an image carrier; a holding unit configured to hold a reference table and a tone correction table that convert a plurality of input image data values into corresponding output image data values; and a correcting unit configured to control the forming unit to form a first test pattern including a plurality of images having different densities on the image carrier using the tone correction table, and correct the tone correction table by detecting densities of the plurality of images. The correcting unit is further configured to correct the tone correction table by updating the tone correction table using the detected densities of the plurality of images and then interpolating the updated tone correction table using the reference table.

    • An image processing apparatus accurately compensates a flare component. The image forming apparatus reads images in a first reading condition and a second reading condition in which flare less occurs, and includes: a reflectance assignment unit for assigning a reflectance to the first image in accordance with the distance between the first image and the second image; a color information arithmetic unit for obtaining color information about the first image read in the second reading condition; a flare component derivation unit for deriving a flare component of the second image based on the reflectance and the color information; and a flare component removing unit for removing a flare component of the second image read in the first reading condition, based on the second image read in the first reading condition and the flare component derived by the flare component derivation unit.
