    • A clock mechanism actuated by a large number of separate ball weights which are fed individually from a supply chamber into a cup on a counterweighted pivoted motion arm or balance lever. The weight of each successive ball overcomes the counterweight of the lever and swings it about its pivot until the ball cup moves to a position where the ball drops from the cup and permits the lever to swing back to its counterbalanced position. The lever is connected to suitable mechanism so that this movement of the lever produces a predetermined advance of indicators of the clock to indicate correct time. The balls discharged successively from the ball cup are collected and supplied to the ball supply chamber for re-use in actuating the indicator mechanism.

    • 240,505. Schieferstein, G. H. April 28, 1924. Machinery, utilizing inertia to obtain movements in. - An elastically-supported mass excited gradually to movement in a circle or other closed curve by rotary driving means acting thereon through an extremely elastic coupling, constitutes a mechanical system having pronounced natural frequency and stated to be applicable for regulating rotating mechanisms such as motors, generators, &c., electric &c. clocks &c. with continuously-moving hands, phonographs, telescope-movers &c. Various embodiments of the invention are described. In Fig. 1, the mass a constrained by springs b , b , b , b is gradually excited to movement in a circle by a crank g acting through an extremely flexible coupling k. In Fig. 2, the mass is constrained by rectangularly arranged springs b , b and the flexible coupling comprises a crank g formed at the end of a wire coil k. Such coupling means may extend on both sides of the mass a. In Fig. 4, an annular mass a, supported peripherally by a number of radial springs b , b , is driven through a spring k by a concentric crank g, an initial displacement being produced either artificially or by the sag of the springs. In a numbers of forms the mass is supported in the manner of a circular pendulum at the end of a spring b, Fig. 5, or of a rod connected to the spring, Fig. 8, the upper end of the spring being fixed to a support, and the coupling k being in the form of a conical spring fixed to the mass with its end engaging a hole or slot in a crank disc g. One or more arms c may be carried by the pendulum rod as shown in Fig. 8, enabling linear motion to be transmitted to or from the device through an elastic coupling k . In another form, the crank disc g is at the upper end of the pendulum, being connected through a spring, such as k, to a ring secured to the pendulum rod and enclosing the fixed support. In Fig. 9, a pair of weights a , a is supported by a membrane or elastic plate b and executes a tumbling movement. In another form, a pendular mass is supported by a number of spring bars or coiled springs. Slight modifications of the spring coupling means k, shown in Figs. 1 and 2, are described. An elliptical movement may be obtained by an asymmetric arrangement of the springs &c. Specifications 7252/86 and 1644/78, [Class 103, Railway &c. vehicles], are referred to.

    • A tuning-fork mechanical resonator for a mechanical clock movement with free escapement includes an oscillator of the tuning fork type, of which at least one first prong is intended to oscillate about a first axis and bears at least one first pin associated with at least one first fork tooth of a pallet assembly to cause this assembly to pivot between first and second angular positions and alternately lock and release an escapement wheel. The resonator comprises a conversion member secured to the first pin and designed to on the one hand, convert the oscillations of the first prong of the oscillator into rotational movements of the pallet assembly by transmitting first impulses thereto, and on the other hand, transmit mechanical energy from the pallet assembly to the first prong of the oscillator in the form of impulses.
