    • The invention relates to a collaborative automation system (PS), comprising devices providing divided production and control services (D) such as transport and processing machines (M) with associated device agents (ST-AG, MA-AG), products with associated product agents (WP-AG), and a coordination unit (CO) providing a communication platform (SKP); the invention further relates to a method for the control of such a system. In order to obtain a dynamic detection and calling of processes in a loosely coupled production structure and infrastructure, the invention provides for devices (ST, MA, WP) providing the production and control services to be associated with a DPWS-based web service (ST-WS; MA-WS), wherein device functions are implemented into the DPWS-based web service as device service and agent functions. The communication platform (SKP) is designed as a uniform, DPWS-oriented SOA platform. The devices (ST, MA, WP) providing production and control services communicate via an integrated DPWS-based web service (ST-WS; MA-WS) and via a single communication platform (SKP), wherein device functions are implemented as device services (ST-WS; MA-WS) and agent functions describing device agents (ST-AG; MA-AG; WP-AG) as agent services in the DPWS-based web service. The communication platform is used as a uniform, DPWS-oriented SOA platform.

    • There is described a method, wherein an interpreter program is executed on a control device and is adapted to access scripts having display components and program architectures. Said program architectures are enabled to access operating data of the firmware of the control device, said operational data being convertible to display data of a defined display format and vice versa. The scripts are run, the program architectures compiling the corresponding result in the form of display components with optionally the display data in the defined display format and making the result available to the operating/monitoring device. A display program is executed on the reporting/monitoring device in order to display at least the display components in the defined display format. References to at least one script on the control device are deposited in the display components. These references are connected to an event, and the interpreter program initiates and runs the corresponding script when this event occurs. The operating/monitoring device can no longer directly access the sensitive firmware of the control device. Communication is carried out via an interpreter program. Access to the actual control application is no longer possible.

    • An automation device interactive user interface and method of using the interface is provided herein. The interface is network based in that it employs a browser enhanced by an interactive program embedded therein and an execution engine to execute the program. The interface can be proximate to an associated automated device(s) or remotely connected thereto using a local area network (LAN) and/or a wide area network (WAN) such as the Internet. To facilitate ease of use, the embedded interactive program presents information in an appealing multimedia fashion such that interface appears live and changing. Furthermore, data associated with automation devices can be monitored, extracted, transmitted or otherwise manipulated in real time.

    • A system for process control comprises a server digital data processor and a client digital data processor that are coupled by a network, such as the Internet or an Intranet. The server digital data processor, which is additionally coupled to a control/sensing device and any associated interface equipment (collectively, referred to as “process control apparatus”), includes a command processor that transfers information between the network and the process control apparatus. The client digital data processor includes an information client (e.g., a so-called Internet web browser) capable of requesting and receiving an applet from the server digital data processor. The information client, further, defines a hardware-independent and operating system-independent virtual machine environment within the client digital data processor. The client digital data processor executes, within that virtual machine environment, an applet for configuring the client digital data processor as a “process controller” that establishes communications over the network with the command processor and that monitors and/or controls the process control apparatus via those communications.

    • The subject invention pertains to a system and method of interacting with industrial automation devices such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs). A client computer can include a browser and one or more application components such as applets that are executed by the browser. The application components retrieve and receive data from automation devices in their native protocol and present such data to a browser for display to a user. The application components, as well as other browser data, can be stored locally on a computer readable medium associated with the client computer to facilitate expeditious access thereto, among other things. Furthermore, the application components can implement and apply digital rights management technology to increase control and security with respect to execution of the application components.
