    • A passive noise reduction device may be used with an instrument having at least one electromagnetic pickup. The device may include a device coil wound so as to form at least one free-shaped ring, a first terminal for connection to the pickup coil, and a second terminal for connection to ground. The device coil is responsive to the one or more stimuli so as to produce a noise electrical signal component in the device coil. The pickup coil and the device coil are in substantially the same plane. The noise reduction device coil is wound such that the pickup noise electrical signal component is substantially 180° out of phase with respect to the device noise electrical signal component, and such that the device noise electrical signal component destructively interferes with the pickup noise electrical signal component so as to reduce noise in a resultant electrical signal into the output circuit.

    • A pickup for a musical instrument includes a first assembly, a housing, and a magnet. The first assembly comprises a base plate, a pole that extends from the base plate, and a coil of wire wrapped around the pole. A first lead wire extends from a first coil end and a second lead wire extends from a second coil end. The housing is user attachable to, and detachable from, the top of the first assembly, independently of any electrical connections made to electronics of the musical instrument. Moreover, the housing attaches to and detaches from the first assembly such that when attached, the pole of the first assembly is in magnetic cooperation with the magnet. Also, the housing is removable, thus allowing the magnet to be changed out to another magnet without removing strings or other hardware of the musical instrument.

    • A sound pickup switching system for an electric string instrument which has at least two pickup coils and a multi-position selector switch, includes a switch matrix with a plurality of switches in it connected to the pickup coils. The switch matrix electrically interconnects the pickup coils in predetermined combinations of series, parallel, in-phase, or out-of-phase arrangements. A relay driver is coupled to the switch matrix to operate the switches under control of outputs from a table memory coupled with the relay driver. User input controls are coupled with the table memory for entering and storing groups of user selected switch combinations in the table memory; and connections are made between the selector switch on the string instrument and the table memory for enabling the table memory to cause the relay driver to operate predetermined combinations of switches in the switch matrix corresponding to different positions of the selector switch on the electric string instrument.
